Is it just me or is it so that the modded BD-2 sounds pretty much as a old mij DS-1? I have a old DS-1 and have never tryed an BD-2 or a modded one. But I have thought about it. So instead I have listened to soundclips of modded BD-2´s at youtube and at keeleys homepage for example and found that it sounds a lot like my DS-1. Is it so or is it only at the soundclips it sounds similar?
I honestly wouldn't trust soundclips on a computer's speakers...but that's just me. The only opinion I really have to go on is this: I use a Keeley BD-2 in my pedalboard for all gigs. One of the bands I work with has another guitarist who uses an old DS-1. Whether it's an MIJ or MIT I couldn't tell you, but I can tell you we don't sound at all alike...not even close IMO. Settings of course will make a difference. To my way of thinking the BD-2 is simply an overdrive while a DS-1 is obviously a distortion unit...big difference in sound.
Ok, I guess that I have to buy and try then. I know that it is not the same type of pedal, it was just that it sounds really like my DS-1 at the setting I use and with BD-2 at a highgain setting. I was just thinkin that maybe the mod did it more like a distortion-unit than a overdrive. Just thinkin out loud. But now I really have to try it cos im curious about how it really sounds.
I hear more than subtle differences. The thing is, if YOU think they sound the same, get the DS-1 & save some money. Keeley is great stuff, but would you want to try one out just to have it not fit the bill & have to send it back. They'd probably take it but are the two pedals in question really sounding that close to your ear? If so, get the Keeley & take her out for a spin.
