Hello everybody, and greetings form Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm really keen on collecting pedals and other musical stuff, vintage specially...
I've recently noticed that there's a kind of dicussion about which Boss pedals are "better", the ones that are Silver Screw or the ones that are not... said in another way, if Silver Screw pedals are better than the orthers... could anybody explain to me how can I dettect if a Boss pedal is Silver Screw or not?
Does Silver Screw pedals have any advantage over the others? Thanks a lot!

PS: I have a serious doubt: I've got a OD-1 Overdirve Made in Japan, Serial N� 0100... printed ON the metal inside the pedal, not printed on a label with "Roland - Products of Japan". What does my serial mean? My pedal is the number 100 in production line? It has a black label on the bottom... I believe it's one of the first ones anyway... Could anybody tell me if this is true? Thanks! |

Welcome to the forum Diego!
Silver screw pedals are older pedals. It's easy to detect whether a pedal is silver screw or not, simply the screw that you undo to get to the battery is silver.

generally older pedals have the silver screw, I believe it was phased out sometime in the 80's, and if a pedal has a silver screw it is more likely to have "better" components. Internal circuitry of older design boss pedals such as the DS-1 changed over time, so the older silver screw models are more likely to have the sought after older circuitry.
Plus, silver screws look cooler

Even for the exact same pedal (same guts), just different years, one with ss, one without, they can go $50 higher.
I dont think ive seen someone buy the screw for more than that, but im sure somewhere it happened |
