Picked this up cheap. It's an ex-rental, but only ever been played by professional musos and is in MINT condition.
Been trying to find one at the right price for over 8 years - I bought my old ESP 4-string because I couldn't afford a Stingray (I've had a few $ stashed away for a couple of years in case one came along).
These basses are fantastic to play. Great feel, and awesome tone. I am a very happy camper

Stingray's are very cool, although I'd prefer the 4-string version. |

That's Beautiful, congrats! I am supremely jealous.
I too have wanted a Stingray 5 for a long time. My bass teacher had one when I first started playing, I thought he was the coolest person alive. I'm quite happy to make do with my Fender Jazz for the moment... it really has grown on me since I got it. Maybe one day I'll snare a SR5...

For one, I like the looks of the 4 string Stingray better, it's mostly shape of the pickguard that botters me. And secondly, I've always played a 4 string bass, I don't feel the need for a 5 or more strings. I do use the Hipshot Detuner for low D though.

Very nice.
I'm kinda with Dirk on this one too. Whenever I've played bass(which isn't often) it's been a four-stringer and it's just what I'm used to. When I've tried a five-stringer it seems like more often than not I'm hitting the fifth instead of the root(by accident...and I hope I'm describing that right)...so I'm more comfortable with a four-string. |

I'm betting "meaty". They're huge! There's probably a kilo of copper in them... |

These basses are pretty loud unplugged as well.. super-resonant ash. The p'ups are usually tight and focused (and the preamp will blow your head off).
When I play bass, I'm more into 4-string as well, although I enjoy fiddling around with 5- and 6-string. On the MusicMan stuff, my favourite feature is a matching sunbursted headstock - most seem to come without that option into stores though. |
