Can't find the right distortion pedal, I have the DS-1 which I really like but sometimes I do think that that the tone isn't too dark enough. I also have MT-2 which is good but the sound is too dark. Whereas my I used to have a BD-2, which I really liked but had to let it go. I got a OD-2 in my setup right now, but it's not what I really want. I have 3 distortions in my setup, yet I can't get my early 80's marshall to get the 80's or 90's tone. Any recommendations !!

You might want to experiment with different EQ settings on your amp, however, I have heard that the Mega Distortion (MD-2?) does the nu-metal thing pretty well...

if you want an 80s "dark" sound, the HM-2 is the way to go, or even the MZ-2. these 2 are in between the DS-1 and MT-2 on the heaviness spectrum

You might want to try the OS-2. It's kind of cool.

What about the Marshall Guv'nor 2 ? I have heard nothing but good comments about this one, but it's not a BOSS...

Marshall distortion pedals are great.
I have the old style shredmaster pedal, brilliant for natural sounding distortion.
I hope to add a SD-1 to mine for more of a smooth mid range tone.

Get the Analog Man DS-1.
That way you will get less noise and a more usable tone control while keeping the great tone of a DS-1. I wont ever part with mine. |

I use the AM4 from Line6. It is actually a amp modeller, but it works great as a distortion box. It has 4 buttons and you can have clean and distorted sounds available at your feet. With an exp pedal you are supposed to be able to morph between settings. Much better than BD-2 or DS-1 I also have.
