I'm looking for a good compressor (in pedal-format) for my bass and someone told me once that the CS1 was very good for bass...I've never tried it, the only thing I know is that I hate his actual successor, the CS3...
any info? |

If you want a really killer comp for your bass, buy a Trace Elliot SMX Dual Compressor. You won't regret it. |

| well, the problem is: I've already got the SMX, and I'm disappointed with it...I don't know if you have the same problem, but mine doesn't affect the highs.. |

i dont think i would recomend the CS-1. there was a user on this forum that had a thought his CS-1 was broken, but it turned out to be the way the CS-1 sounds. Compression (along with EQ, etc) is an effect that you would want to be "newer" as they seem to get better the newer they are. unlike most other effects where the older model usually sounds better. just my opinion anyway, and im more of a limiter guy |

Yeah, I would most certainly not recommend a CS-1 for Bass. I do know that the Keeley Compressor can be used for bass, if you fool with the internal trim pot, I'm sure if you message them about it when you're ordering it, that they would probably do it for you.
You can sell off your other comps to help pay for it |

Nibla : the SMX is a dual band comp, so there's a band for lows and one for highs. Maybe your setting for highs is too weak ?
The SMX is a subtle compressor. The kind you realize is was on only when you turn it off. Not the kind which turn your bass into a killing slap machine or something like that.
If you're into really great and efficient (in band and live settings) compressors, the SMX is the best I ever found. Of course, for me, a great compressor is a subtle one. Not an item to change your sound, but more to make it fit better where it belongs (in the band mix).
If you're into the kind of compressors that makes your sound really different, like really more attack feelings or stuff like that, a comp that you use more to alter your sound, I understand why the SMX doesn't fit you.
The Boss comps are kinda great for adding some kind of attack, but they eat low end. |

| Maybe try the LM-2 or LM-2B. LM-2 is my favorite Boss compressor. It was originally designed for guitar, but was used frequently by bass players. This is why Boss later released the LM-2B. |
