hello all,
whats the best way to turn an sd-1 into symmetric?
a. add a similar diode to d4 to balance it the same as d5 and d6
OR
b. remove either d5 or d6 ?
this is to make a different flavor for an extra sd-1
regards and peace to all,
LDR |

Hi leonard d rock
Both methods will work. But the (2) diodes in series method will clip at a slightly higher level, and the pedal will seem to be a little louder.
You can take this to extremes, & use 3-4-5 diodes in series. But once you go over 3 diodes, you may as well use red LEDs, as the clippers.

If you want more of a tube screamer vibe, you may want to add a second diode in series with D4. The SD-1 has more gain on tap than the TS, and using dual diodes might offset the gain difference a bit.
If you want to go the other way, remove D5 or D6 and put a jumper in its place. The SD-1 will distort even more than stock in that setup.
