I'm trying to get a rough idea on the date of manufacture of one of my CE-2 Chorus pedals. First, it has the green Made in Japan label, so I'm sure it's pre-1988. Secondly, the serial number label that should be in the battery compartment is missing, gone since I bought the pedal several years ago. I was hoping there was a chip on the circuit board that has a date code on it, kinda like the NE570N in a DM-2. But browsing this site's page dedicated to the CE-2 didn't reveal anything like that. Does the numbers on the JRC4558(6210) have a code to figure this out with? As you can tell I'm really in the dark on this.
Can anyone shed light on this? It's not that important to me; I'm no longer gigging with the pedal(I switched to a CE-5 about 6 months ago), I'm just curious about an approximate date of manufacture.
Here's a shot of the board I just dug up in case anyone can make out something to tip me off:

Here's a pic of the pedal itself for you pedal-porn lovers:

Thanks in advance! |

Yes, usualy the first digit is the year of production (for old JRC).
I own a black label CE-2 produced in 1982 and the JRC date code is 2269. So, IMO 1986 could be the year of production. And as Bosserea said : The label changed from black to green 1984. The CE-2 was produced in Japan up until 1988 when production moved to Taiwan.

I was thinking I had read something about the number on the 4558, but I couldn't confirm this.
So the "6" in the code is the year(1986). Is the "2" the second month? Then the "10" was something else...it's early and I haven't had my coffee yet... |

I don't know... anyway it's the production date of the chip, not the pedal. It may take some time between the two (I have a MXR Distortion with the two pots dated 79 and 80). |

Yeah, I know...chips are earlier than the pedal.
I'm gonna go with the assumption that this pedal is approximately late 1986/early 1987 vintage. Like I said, I have no intention of selling it anyway, just trying to feed my own curiosity.
Thanks! |

I don't know how the old JRC date codes work but it's possible to use the date code of the transistors. They normally have a code like 3C where the number is year and the letter is the month of production. |
