According to the BOSS book models in the first period had the backside edge painted the same way as the rest of the pedal.

Although I never come across an old pedal with a painted edge I am suprised to see this:

This was supposedly made from 1985 - and it has the painted edge.

Anyone has any info on the painted edges??

Cheers

Well spotted.

As noted in the Boss book, some of the older pedals are painted this way but it looks like a few pedals made later was painted like this too. I had a look through my own pedals and found that the DM-3 and DSD-2 (both MIJ) had painted edges.

Had a quick glance at my MIJ DS-1, supposedly made in 1985 and early MIT GE-7 which was within reach, and both have the painted edge too. It seems like its perhaps more common that the Boss Book implies.

Maybe the crucial factor here if edge was painted or not, was dependant on the mood for the day...

O.K., here's my list:

DF-2 "Super Distortion & Feedbacker" - S/N 473300
DS-1 - S/N 680600
CE-3 - S/N 573400
PH-2 - S/N 788600

All MIJ

I've got a PS-5 with some overspray on one edge, but I don't think it counts. S/N ZN48150

Grace and peace,

Steve

Looked at one of my OD-1s last night and noticed that an old OD-1 with silver screw does not have the painted edge. It seems however like even among the early Boss pedals, some has the painted edge, and some dont...
