I've gotta say guys I'm pretty pissed here. If you're not up for reading a rant, please hit the back button and find another post to read.

A while back I wrote in a thread on GuitarGeek entitled "Worst Use of Effects" and I made a comment about how many users on GuitarGeek who have their rigs posted in their signatures have Some Cheapo Squier or Low-Grade Ibanez Guitar > 1 Million Expensive and Vintage Effects Pedals > Squier or Crate Low Watt Amp

And I said how I thought that it was a bad use of effects when that money should go toward better guitars and amps, and I used the word gay when describing something I can't even remember now.

So then I get chewed out by "Mike" (RushFanLV) or something like that is his name, a moderator, via PM's and he rants on about how some people take offense to the word gay and it's not allowed here. Although if that's the case I don't know why they don't just censor it like they do most cuss words on the GC Forums.

Anyway that passes and while I didn't appreciate being chewed out I went on about my business and didn't post on GuitarGeek for a while.

Then yesterday I am reading a thread in the Amplifiers forum on there, and someone else uses the word "gay" and I warn him in the thread that they don't take kindly to that around here, and mention how I got chewed out for doing that like a month ago.

So a big flamefest breaks out with people agreeing that we shouldn't be censored and talking about freedom, and others saying things about common curtesy, and other's who seem angry that I even mentioned "Mike" was involved.

Anyway people just keep flaming, I respond a few times, and then say "I'm not responding to any more replies, go ahead and PM me if you still want to discuss this" or something like that, I can't quite remember now, and I can't look it up, because....

When I went to logon this morning and see what people's responses were I realized that the Moderators at GuitarGeek had Deleted the thread, Deleted all of my posts ever made to GuitarGeek, and disabled my account.

Don't get me wrong, I'm 23, I work a mellow corporate job, I'm well past my punk rock/anarchy stage, this isn't some ridiculous rant about freedom. All I wanted to do was warn a fellow forum user that he could be in violation of some unwritten code of rules. And all of a sudden I never existed.

I am only too grateful that forums such as this one exist, the only reason I ever went to GuitarGeek is because this forum isn't always really active and I ran out of posts to read.

Anyway....

As a forum admin I've found it is difficult to decide where to set the line. Spammers and trolls are easy to deal with but some people are sensitive to rude language and in some cases derigatory terms are used without the poster even knowing about it.

It sounds to me like the Guitargeek moderators has overreacted. I can understand that they deleted the thread because the flame wars can easily escalate but I think it's better to lock those types of threads and ask the people involved to take it offline. Deleting the thread is like denying that the flame war ever happened.

Disabling your account means you were singled out as the on that broke the forum rules. Maybe you did, maybe you didn't. I think it would be better if they at least sent you a warning first.
Deleting all your posts is just plain wrong. Older threads become unreadable if some posts are removed and no one wants that.

I decided to allow all words here (sticks and stones...) and instead I listed a few topics to avoid such as religion and politics as those are prone to cause flame wars. It seems to work well so far... (fingers crossed)

They're all far too up themselves on GuitarGeek, plus it pretty much spreads lies and the majority of the rigs on there are erroneous.

thats why i think that the internet should only be for certain people. in the past 10 years censorship has spun way out of control. someone that would take offence to the word "gay" in a guitar forum has issues. i can see if you were flat out calling a homesexual man "GAY," but you made it clear that you were using a slang term

i totally agree with bossarea's "sticks and stones" rule. this should be everyones motto. if you dont like it, dont cause drama. just ignore it. the world would be a much happier place. now how bout a lama.

I know what you mean. The forums at Harmony Central seem to be full of people who think their crap don't stink as well. Thats part of the reason why I like this forum, people seem to like to discuss matters instead of just dissing the person asking the question, or the equipment that they may be inquiring about.

This is sadly insane. Discussing an observed or opinion of poor choice of gear has nothing to do at all with sexual orientation.

We simply cannot walk around wondering if everytime we turn around someone is offended by what we say. YOU know WHEN You are saying something that will offend, especially if the intent is to offend, and both will be self-evident.

Where are all the real men in the world, just trying to help his neighbour out, anyways.

only one word comes to mind to describe those people....muppets... if we just ignore other peoples views or at worst delete them so others can't read them that is just sad...anyway this guy mike is probaly the one with the cheap crappy guitar and amp and the million expensive effect pedals,so it wasn't anything about using the word gay at all.....if people are going to be so politically correct and sensitive all the time its going to be a bad time for franzoni to be on this planet....long live keith richards and rock n roll.....
