This topic has been on the forum several times, but as time goes by our favourites change Boss or non-Boss of course
Right now my most loved overdrive is Analog Man BD-2, I like BD-2 stock but with the modded one you have a far less brittle sound, and a smother overdrive sound. It works great as a booster for tube amps, it adds something that make the guitar/amp sing.

I seem to forget what they sound like, as I tend to use one or two for a long time [2 years or so]
After Zentropa's comments on the MXR dist. + and the RAt, and them sounding similar I went back to both of them. REally like the RAt, it can even duplicate that OD-1 sound. Had not used it for a long time. Always like the MXR, for its simplicity mainly.
Just as you I also like the BD-2, it is true it adds that something extra. GReat pedal.
Apart from that there is the DS-1, the OD-1, the HM-2 and the SD-2.
Those are probably my most used [and well-liked]ones.
Will start using the PW-2 more, for similar reasons as I have somewhat "forgotten" its sound. |

| The one included in my Marshall JCM900 and second OD-3, I prefered it to the OD-1 too. |

I like the Monty Allumns SD-808 plus modded SD-1 a lot. |
