Just picked up a "tired" DOD FX60 chorus for $25. Inside, it looks very much like a CE-2...
EDIT: make that a DEAD FX60. Lucky all the parts are standard...
Havent tried it yet, but would be interested to hear anyone else's experience with one of these? |

not a bad pedal.
imo sounds somewhere between a CE-3 and CE-5.
i've had fx60, fx64, fx65, fx68, and fx70 chorus pedals. my fav was the fx68 aka super stereo chorus. |

Hi Laurie Nice... I have a later FX64. Pics are always good... (hint hint).
For the Schematic look here: http://files.muziq.be/schematics/dod_fx60.gif http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schemview.php?id=2308 http://www.schematicheaven.com/effects.htm
Most of the Schematics for older discontinued DOD stuff, in on their site, if you look around a bit.
Let me know, how you go & what you find? I guess that trip out to get the goodies for the BBQ payed off.
Regards Dr. Bob

the FX60 are pretty old. it's hard to find em with working switches but i stumble across many of em.
the FX64's were the dawn of the made in taiwan era for DOD. the other 4 were USA models. |

I had the FX65 many moons ago,in fact i had a whole Dod/digitech 'board..the were all good pedals if a little noisy compared to boss..it was only after coming across some recording of a rehearsal i found on tape that i realised how good the Dod chorus was soundwise, the only thing i found was the door of the battery compartment is easily lost with these pedals(nothing a bit of electrical tape can't sort out. )..i gigged mine pretty solid with no probs.i'm not suprised you found the insides were like a CE-2 as far as my experience of the 65 and listening back to those tapes, soundwise it was part of the reason, along with the recommendations of people on this forum that i went looking for a CE-2 and i wasn't disapointed in getting an old analogue chorus pedal again, much better than the digital versions IMHO.......if i had of come across a Dod chorus (or if i ever do again) i will get it too,if the price is right.. ..the only Dod pedal i have left is a harmonic enhancer,a bit like a treble booster..if i can find it i will post some pics if anyone is interested.... |

Hi Franzoni
I would like to see your Dod Harmonic Enhancer. Please post it into the Pedal internals thread, & I will add it to the index.
My DOD FX64 IceBox sounds nothing like the CE-2. Yes it does a pretty good chorus, but it doesn't have the upper mids sparkle that the CE-2 is known for. The later models of the Dod's have had a change in the design of the Battery door, it now has a fixed wire hinge & doesn't fall off any more.
I have a few of these doors in my collection, found after gigs & left in boxes of junked pedals I sometime find/buy.

the FX64 was kind of an anomaly in that imo, it sounded more like a mini leslie than a chorus.
i used to refer to that sound as a "shimmering" chorus... not really like a true chorus sound, but popular in 90's alterna-rock w/ smashing pumpkins and the like.
when you get down to it, only 2 boss chorus pedals can really pull off that sound, whereas all of the DOD chorus pedals could do it. the CE-3 and CE-5 are really the only ones. the CE-2 and CH-1 won't. my favorite chorus pedals of this style were probably the ibanez CS9 and the DOD FX68. |

NO problemo Dr Bob it won't be for a couple of days, possibly tommorow evening as i'm out to yet another gig to have lots of fun and have some of these.... it's such a hard life..... .... the FX65 was the dark blue one with three knobs.... i'm not saying it was the same as a CE-2 cos i don't have them to compare side by side but it was a very rich analog sounding chorus from what i have on the tape and from memory...... another problem i seem to remember was i had the pedal in my chain but wasn't getting any effect one time,it turned out the battery clip connections were a bit loose and needed to be retensioned...but i seem to remember i was still getting a bypassed signal through the pedal .. would that be right...??..... http://filters.muziq.be/model/dod/fx/fx65 i found this on discofreq's site ..this is the one i had..... |

Hi Franzoni
The FX64 looks like this, but mine is NIB with Man. http://filters.muziq.be/model/dod/fx/fx64
The early versions had these stupid yet now (slightly) collectible names on the controls.
From Left to right looking down on the pedal.
New: LEVEL-SPEED-DEPTH-HI EQ Old: ICE-COLD-DEEP-FREEZE
I've notice that a lot of these sell in the under $20 range on evilBay US.
The DOD website is near impossible to navigate, when looking for a specific pedal/s, not to mention, No sound samples. I also noticed, that the current line up doesn't include a Chorus. But I've drifted off topic.

Just got it going again - well to the point where the LED comes on. New battery snap and soaked the switch in contact cleaner.
Now to clean it and see how it sounds... |

Hi Laurie
If I find them, one already has your name on it.
But please remember, we moved house not too long ago, & things are still in boxes in the shed. I'm currently on a bit of annual leave, & it's Spring here in OZ. So I will be doing a cleanup.
Remember I PM-ed you that I was cleaning up the Lab? I can actually see the surface of the Lab Bench, I forgot the original colour of the laminate.

The completed restoration. I swapped the red LED for a blue one that matched the case colour...
I think it is underrated... sounds not a million miles away from a CE-2. Bit "floppier" at low frequencies and not quite as mellow overall. Still a really nice pedal...

Hi Laurie
Congrats on the fix.
I actually like the mechanical design of this model.(except for the fall-off battery door).
What does it sound like, set for Slow & Deep. Any chance of some internal pics.
