BF-3
or, from what i've heard, put a bass through any distortion pedal on max settings, it is the best sound known to man, and harsh at the same time |

My Hyper Fuzz on fuzz 2 is damn harsh, but ace at the same time. Non-boss my Fender Blender is the harshest, but having all of my distortions on at once is the harshest yet best - like a tidal wave of chunky fuzzy bees.

Agree that the fuzzes are harsh, but I think SD-1 can be too.

the HM-3 i find pretty harsh.if it had a little mroe balls, it would be an amazing pedal. just seems to have a little to much noise, not enough power.

How does the HM-3 compare to the HM-2. The HM-2 is probably my favourite pedal, but I've always been torn whether to get the HM-3 when I've seen them on ebay.

Suprised no one has mentioned the XT-2. This one is always harsh sounding no matter how you set it.

To me, the DS-1 is harsh sounding, at least through a solid-state amp.

Most distortions sound harsh through solid state amps though, that's why I love them.

tom. to answer your question, the HM-2 and HM-3 have huge differences. i wouldnt call the HM-3 the big brother.

Ahh ok thanks, I got the impression it was almost a 'big brother' because of the continuation of the 'HM'. I guess I'll leave it be, is it more of a 'metal' pedal than the HM-2?

well, it seems like the HM-3 tried going for the scooped sound but it comes across rather thin i think. it can beefed up with an EQ, but i think the HM-2 is a much better pedal for heavy stuff

Ahh ok, it's also really good for (decent) indie stuff like Pavement and Biffy Clyro, and post-rock like Slint and Explosions in the Sky, and other Shoegazey types like My Bloody Valentine, it's so versatile and great for loads of types of music, if you turn the gain right down it's like an od-1 (though it is just a 'beefy' OD-1 anyway according to the Boss Book).

I just got a SD-1, and I find it REALLY harsh. I don't dislike it, but I was expecting something more warm.

JUST LIKE THE DS-1, KEEP ALL CONTROLS WELL BELOW NOON (especially the TONE and DRIVE) , and it is way sweeter than what you first might think! |

Defintely the XT-2. With the treble (punch?) knob all the way off it was still akin to shoving a sharpened pencil in your ear. The XT-2 is the only pedal I've ever had (out of maybe 80 or so) that has had no redeemable features at all. Made my Fender tube sound worse than my cheap as chips 5w SS Korean practice amp.
