The best way to anchor vintage (rare) pedals on the pedalboard without destroying them too much?
Im talking about homemade boards, I suppose the ones Boss made/have made are quite good for fastening without hurting them too much.

I generally use plain old Velcro strips to fasten pedals to my PB. I find that once I remove any pedal from the board, the velcro can be removed with no/minimal damage to the pedal...

You can use Un-Du to remove the adhesive from the Velcro.

i saw a guy who used those zip strips, just drilled two holes on either side of the pedal and put a zip strip around the pedal

Kind of defeats the purpose of mounting effect pedals on a board without damaging them which was the premise of this topic.

Wait, I see what you meant. Drill holes in the board, not the pedal, right? OK!

Another idea might be to anchor the cables to the board rather than directly anchoring the pedals. It will reak havoc on the idea of moving things around, but it could work out for you if you already know what you want.

My best suggestion is to still use Velcro. You can cut out a big hole in the Velcro pad around the label on your Boss pedals, or just use strips to surround the label. Use an real commercial adhesive solvent to remove the strips (but don't get it on the label if you don't want an problems).

I saw a really cool thing on mounting wah-wah pedals today. Probably won't work for those Whatever-Dog ones that weigh twice as much as a Crybaby/Vox, but I thought it was cool, and I use a Vox. You just replace the backplate with theirs so you don't have to stick or unstick anything to your backplate.

Good advices Walrus121, cutting out the Velcros I never thought about.
As I just got a used Boss BCB-60 I saw that they are using "skumgummi-liggunderlag" (I dont know the English word for it but it is the material you use under sleepingbags when you sleep in a tent ). Its easy to cut out the form of the pedal and if you do it right the pedals is fastened really good. This can be used on any pedalboard if the pedals are secured by the top when transporting.

I like 3M Hook and Loop Fasteners. You cut them to length and fasten one side to the pedal and one to the pedal board. This stuff is much stronger than velcro and sticks better. It also comes off clean without damaging the pedal. It's expensive, but well worth it.

I think that we are all talking about Velcro in the generic sense of a hook-and-loop fastener, rather than as a specific brand.

I use Death Grip (way stronger than even "Industrial Strength" Velcro) which is sold by Coffin Case. www.coffincase.com

i bought a mutipurpose grate from home depot & used pull ties to hold the pedals in place. velcro was such a pain in the butt. sometimes it didn't hold well (for heavy pedals like a wah). or when you needed to rearrange a pedal the velcro was so strong that when i lifted the pedal the velcro will still be on the board stuck together with the pedals label attached. not good for collectors.

i bolted the grate/pedal board to a cnb pedal case & so far so good.

I like the grate idea. Is there any damage caused to the finish on the pedals from the friction between the pedals and the tie-downs?

none yet. i imagine if the pedal is strapped down tight enough that it doesn't move around then the paint shouldn't wear off. you could put something in between or use something other than the plastic pullties to anchor it.
we used my contraption for a weeklong tour & it worked out nicely.

No, It's not like Velcro at all. Velcro has two different materials that stick together. 3M hook and Loop fastener is the same material on both sides and it's sticking power is 20 times that of Velcro type products. I can lift my entire 45 pound pedal board completely off the ground by just picking up 1 pedal that is fastened with this, try that with Velcro! Do a google search for 3m Hook and Loop fasteners to find a plethora of places that carry this product.

I might have to give that a shot. Thanks for the tip!
