| i was in billy hydes(music shop) earlier today and saw a pw2 power driver behind glass, brand new! i couldnt work it out, it wasnt second hand, it was mint and still in its box with papers. anywho, i got to have a look at it and the serial number is aj33103. according to the decoder it was made in December 1996!!!! wtf!? the guy checked for me and said it had come into the shop, from the supplier, in february! so very odd. he reckoned they were still making them! i would have bought it, but $299aud??? |

| I paid $70 for my PW-2 NOS. I reckon it sat in the little music store's case since '97! Its a great low-mid grinder. |

whoa. first of all, 300 for a PW-2 is absolutely ludicrously insane. you never know with Boss and production dates since they seem to be off on many dates. ive also seen cases where the owner obviously swaps a backplate to make it seem like a rare oddity when its actually a normal pedal with a different backplate.
sometimes when people ask ridiculous amounts for pedals its just because they are uninformed. at a pawn shop near my house there was Taiwan DS-1 for $100. i asked the owner why and she said that she sourced it on ebay and saw it for that price. she showed me the exact listing (she was standing right beside the computer) and clicked the link to a MIJ DS-1 with box. i explained the DS-1 history to her and a week later it was selling for $45 |

| I thought $70 was a bit high & thought I could steal it for about $45. The owner had already taken a loss on the pedal sitting in his store for near a decade & its my guess it was starting to seem vintage. My son begs me for it but it sits very, very nicely between my BD-2 & MT-2. We shant ever part ways! |

I've seen the same problem as strato on secondhand gear here in ireland..people see something like the DS1 he described or a strat/amp etc and don't realise that the one they have seen on the 'net is different and start looking for outrageous money for them.... i personally had a problem with a lady i rang up a while ago about trace elliott guitar combo in the small ad's ..she started saying that another person had rang and offered more than the stated price in the ad..... yeah right...!!! as if..... i just said no thanks and put the phone down...sometimes you just have to walk away...... |

Hi FRANZONI & Guys
Like recently here on Evilbay.AU A local seller had a Boss ME-33 Multi effects for BIN pickup only $450au
After 8 days, No one was making bids, so being a good Citizen, I wrote to them, in a nice friendly tone, & told them that they should check current prices for the ME-33, & that they had WAY overpriced it. I also told them that, I was not interested in buying the unit. As well as the fact, that they listed it as EM-33 instead of ME-33.
They never replied but, they did listen, they re-listed it at $400au
Maybe they thought I was trying to scam them... Who knows?
Sometimes I fee sorry for these people. While I don't know their circumstances, I really hope it wasn't some single mum trying to get some cash to feed & cloth her kids.
I just guess that age old adage still pays true. "It takes all kinds......... "
Regards Dr. Bob

hey I know this thread is almost 2 years old, but I picked up a Pw 2 from billy hyde this year with serial aj33101 dec 1996, it had its old billy hyde sticker on it for 300 bucks and it was in a specials bin. so I asked them how much it was and I got it for 100 bucks, brand new with papers and box, it has one tiny scratch in it and some weird cheapo battery but apart from that its awesome. Just funny that the serial numbers were almost the same haha, which store did you go to?
again, sorry if anyone gets annoyed that this is an old thread. |

I don't know why, but I tried to calculate the odds Not sure if I got it right though
Let's assume that there's 20000 PW-2s, there's then (20000)^2 = 400 million combinations of 2 numbers. 19998 of these combinations are two numbers apart (1 and 3, 2 and 4, 3 and 6 and so on up to 19998 and 20000). The chance that two people would have serial numbers, 2 numbers apart is then 1 in 20000 (400 million/19998 ~ 20 000).
The chance is practically the same that the numbers would be next to each other. The chance that 2 people would have serial numbers 20000 numbers apart is however 1 / 400 000 000 |
