I have a Japan made Boss BCB-3 which I'm not using right now and I wondered if it was worth any more to a collector than a Taiwan/China BCB-30 or am I just dreaming?! |

Hi johnnyguitar
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Tough (outside the square) question, I think I'll leave this one, up to the other members here.
While technically this is not a "For Sale" post. Please read our forum rules about posting "For Sale" items. http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=76
Especially the last line.
Regards & welcome again. Dr. Bob

Cheers Dr Bob - I'm not trying to get a sale in this thread - I'm just interested to know because I know a lot of fuss is made over where a Boss pedal is made and what colour the label on the bottom is and so forth.
Personally I have no idea - I have an old MIJ CE-2 that was given to me and had to be rescued, but I don't know if it sounds any better than a modern MIK or MIC version. I just wondered if the same rule applied to other Boss brand items |

Hi johnnyguitar
I guess we'll have to wait & see what the other guys have to say.
The MIJ CE-2 sounds interesting. What did you have to rescue it from? Or do you mean it was faulty?
You may have read over many threads that I have a real soft spot, for any MIJ or MIT CE-2 chorus. I hope yours is as good as the ones in my modest collection.
Nice Les Paul? in your band pics. I look forward to hearing some of your MP3 samples (later), but unfortunately is very late over here, & time for some serious ZZZzzzz's
Regards Dr. Bob |

Personally I'd rather have a newer pedalboard case for practical reasons, since older plastic gets a bit brittle and seeing as this is something that will probably be knocked about a little more than most items! Having said that, I wouldn't pay any less for a MIJ pedalcase, especially as a home practice board. Nothing like a bit of Japanese Kudos!
Although if you are interested in selling I'd probably be willing to take it off your hands |

Dr Bob - the LP is a 2003 LP Standard which at the time had an original Burstbucker and a Rio Grande Texas humbucker at the bridge. It's now got a pair of SD Pearly Gates fitted which sound fantastic. The CE-2 was given to me a long time ago by a friend of mine, unfortunately not too long after, it stopped working. I sent it to pedal-mods in the UK who repaired it for me and it now lives on my pedalboard with a TR-2, a Keeley SD-1 and a GE-7 (amongst others). I have thought about a PH-3, but cash is a bit tight. I was using TU-2s until I got hold of a Korg Pitchblack and I have to say they're excellent.
Jaymz - I know what you mean about the relative fragility of the BCB3/30s - I had two BCB3s which somehow broke both clips, fortunately the BCB3 has survived intact, although the hinges broke off my dad's. The other downside of course is that you can only f=it 3 pedals in a BCB 3 (obviously )

| i would have to say no. there is never much money for something like that.If it has a serial number or something that says made in japan on it. i would not see you getting much more then a new one. if you look at the prices for a bcb-6 the go for a little less then a bcb-60. I mean if its in great shape you might get 30 for it |

| I'd say YES. There IS more value to a MIJ product than anything made elsewhere (in the Boss universe, anyway).. The right collector will be willing to pay more than he would for one made in Taiwan, but there's no set price on these things.. I think Zerk's a little low.. maybe 40 or 50USD to the right buyer (and maybe when there's no recession). |
