From what I've seen as I've been watching these go past (ebay and locally)... Super good deal $40 (unlikely). More realistic for a not-too-old one in "variable" condition $60 to $80. Super old in super good condition $100 to $150.

looking at $50-100 probably.
most shops want to charge $80-$100+
ebay can be more like $45-65 before shipping if you are patient.
an odd thing about MIJ DS-1's is that from my experiences, the more beat up they are, the better they tend to sound. i know that's not any kind of rule to count on, just observation :) |

I have this cool DS-1 that I paid $30 for in a local store. It should have a silver screw in it, but then again, if it did, the store probably would have charged $60 for it.

Welcome to the Forum from Australia. Very nice MIJ DS-1 - March 1980.
The Serial number decoder is here: http://www.bossarea.com/serial/sndecoder.aspx

You had to use paintshop to increase the contrast so you could read the serial, eh Dr. Bob? I couldn't even see it until I squinted

I gave my friend $80 for his (unwanted) MIJ DS1, when he looked at me confused like and said they're about $40 new, had to explain to him how it was different, and better |

Welcome danomite64!!
He got it right, too; I checked! So, how do I find a silver screw for it? |

i don't believe the silver screws are still available.
assuming you can't find something like it at a hardware store, easiest bet is to probably buy a silver screw noise gate and swapping the screws? |

Hi danomite64
Perhaps your DS-1 is one of the transitional ones? Where they were using the older Use a Coin label, with the Black plastic screw.
Bossarea would be more familiar with the transitional dates/serial numbers.

A pedal with serial 9200 would definitly have had a silver screw originally. The screw change didn't take place until around 16 months later (around serial 00xx00). |

Picked up a 1985 #569000 today for $40.
Really nice shape, and now I can go ahead and get my MIT DS-1 Modded.

Hi Gizzorge That's in really good condition, & such a cheap price, when compared to pricing here in OZ.
A well known local music shop, is still asking $75-$80 for DS-1's and SD-1's --- and that's on-sale ct. I received a few days ago. I heard that they were around the $30-$40us price.

looks like you got a sweet deal.
i find that the more knowledgeable the store, the more they tend to charge on MIJ SD-1's and DS-1's. i find that the older shops in the area tend to charge $75-100 for those, whereas the pawn shops and corporate music stores end up treating them the same as MIT versions a lot of the time and charge $30-50.
i've even seen silver screw DS-1's have pricetags upwards of $175+.
the other day i traded in a super beat 1986 DS-1 and got $60 store credit. if i had taken it to guitar center i would have been lucky to get $15.

| I'm not having luck with the search function, but when did they switch to MIT? |
