Just ran across them. I could put them to use by connecting my 3 new tubers back to my mixer. I'd sure like to compare them to miking up the amps but it may be awhile.. I'm looking at something ZVex at the moment. Damned internet!
I find that putting the whole bands sound through a PA is great, the guitars and bass with DIs and an electric drum kit(drummers choice not mine) which then can all be easily plugged in. Yet the other guitarist is obsessed with everybody having their own amp. he says the sound actualy "comes from us" when we use amps instead of the PA. Then when we don't use the PA the sound gets out of balance and then it pisses me off. Not to mension the other guitarist always turns his own amp above all the others. I think DIs and PAs are a great idea and keep the sound balanced and clean
there seems to be a few different models of the things on the market now...i agree putting everything through the P.A is the way to go as it keeps the stage volume down ...our drummer at long last has bought drum mics which should help as this has been a bit of a problem for us... the volume coming from behind me forced me into bringing my marshall or musicman amps so i could hear myself but our new bass player is using one of the sansamp bass pedals which splits you signal before the amp to the P.A. as well with excellent results.....i been using a sennheiser 825 for miking the amp off axis on the speaker with pretty good results as well....the marshall with a 2x12 with vintage 30 speakers was really kicking out through the rig lately....i keep the amp pretty clean and use a tube overdrive for dirt.....
