Aren't the original Orange people now making amps called GREEN (with the same font/logo style)??
The currently produced Oranges are nice, but the originals are iconic and phenomenal. Esp. on bass, I think. |

...sort of...the original designer of the late 60's Orange's (Mat Mathias) had his own company (Matamp)...around 70-71 he quit designing amps for Cliff Cooper(Orange owner)...Matamp used to have a U.S. office but something happened and they split and now the U.S. company is called Electric Amp U.S.A.....so the Original Green amp you spoke of is manufactured by Matamp...most people think Green Amp's are connected to Orange somehow...but in reality they named it the Green Amp because Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac was one of the first people to play Matamps...so they named the amp after him...me thinks it was a good idea....'cause he kicks ass!....Green amps w/ the black faceplate are Electric Amp products....the ones w/ the white faceplate's are Matamp...morale of story if you want to buy a real Orange either buy old & used (usually comes w/ free mojo) or go w/ the mighty Matamp!!!!!!!! |

...yup...Peter Green is a freakin genius(on the fiddle that is)...I play in a black metal band and surround myself w/ metalheads...but I don't really listen to metal...usually heavy doses of Prog.(Camel,Crimson(anything Fripp),ELP,Egg,Dungen...) or obscure 70's rock(Stone Bunny,Lucifer's Friend,Pagan Altar,Cactus,Toad,Warpig)...I'm also a huge fan of the SMiLE era Beach Boys...todays "metal" is too boring and one dimensional to keep my attention for very long...unless it's some necro BM! |

Did I post this yet, don't think so...
Anyway, I wanted a different bass sound, I had a Hartke 5000 head which isn't a bad amp at all, but it was always too nice sounding, and I wanted a little more growl without adding a pedal or something. I always loved Duff McKagans bass sound he had with Guns N Roses and I knew he used Gallien Krueger forever. So I bought a new 700RB-mkII amp and sold the Hartke.
Initially I wanted an 800RB model cause that's what Duff used and they still produce that model. But, since that particular model is not CE and RoH complient, I'm not allowed to bring it into the country. Customs can even confiscate it, damn laws
I have it hooked up to an Avatar 2x12 and a GK 2x10 and it sounds great, just the same Guns N Roses type of sound I wanted with a nice growl on top. I use my Boss RCL-10 and RDD-10 in the effects loop. The only dumb thing is that the loop is situated on the front panel, so I have to clumsly run 2 chords from the front of my amp to the back of my effects. Oh well, in a year when warranty is void I could always try to replace those jacks to the back, in the meantime I'll manage to overcome and I'm a happy man.

GK and Avatar = Sweet Combo

The Gallien Krueger MB2-500 is 3lbs and pumps 500 watts.
I also use this heavier but more versatile rack rig for louder gigs (Same Cab).

I want to get an Avatar 210 NEO in the future. I can use the GK with that for ultra portability on small gigs; then integrate it along with the 410 and the rack amp for really loud gigs. In total pushing 1000watts (500 to each cab) |

Hey Warwick.hoy, nice amps
Is that a neo 410? Those are great, I used to own one of those.

That stack is nice Dirk...
Mine is a NEO cab. My back sure does appreciate it.
I love my cab.
I've considered a 212 NEO, but I need something more portable; like the 210 NEO, especially for my quieter gigs. |

After playing Victorias for a few years, I picked up a used Mesa Boogie Mark I reissue recently, and I'm really enjoying gigging with it.

Those Boogies are good amps.
They're indestructable. I dropped one down a flight of stairs once just before a gig... no tubes broke or cracked. Plugged it in... it worked fine!!
I still used if for a fair few years after that too. |

These are my amps. Only solid states at the moment, but a Blackheart Little Giant will be added soon for my clean tones. The Marshall is great for drive but the clean is sometimes a bit lifeless.
Marshall MG100DFX

Orange Crush 35B

Kustom Arrow 16 (my old practice amp)

Don't think i ever posted pics of the Marshall on the forum...i stripped it down to clean all the pot, jack plugs, inputs and outputs and tube bases looking for the source of some noise over christmas....as some of you might know i've been looking for an amp of similar build quality but i think i need to be looking at the upper end of the price scale like silvertones boogie or a matchless etc... and i don't have that sort of dough at the moment until i can sell the Suzuki 1200...might have to leave this in for a good service and buy a flightcase of it and use it a bit longer...
Any of you aussies tell me what famous australian companys logo is on the towel underneath the newspaper ...?.... ... |
