I think AW-2 is rather difficult to get a good sound out of, there are many variables. For auto.wah sound I like TW-1 and FT-2 much more, never tried AW-3.
I had AW-2, AW-3 and FT-2 for comparison. Ended up with FT-2. AW-2 was fun but very noisy with distortion. FT-have a manual mode. So does the AW-3 but I'm not sure if the same kind of exp-pedal can be used.
Wonder why they didn't come up on my search? At least one was fairly recent... sorry for duplicating threads.
Anyhow, there's an AW-2 in a local shop - people seem to have mixed opinions, but it doesn't seem to be rated as much of a classic... if it's still there after payday, I might try it out.
The AW-2 is one of the handful of Boss pedals that I dislike. The tone-sucking on bypass mode is very noticeable. There are better sounding envelope filters out there.
i have two TW-1s and an AW-2. Bought the AW-2 in the mistaken belief that it would be a newer TW-1. Doesn't come close to the TW-1 i'm afraid. Sits in its box collecting dust.
