This one's for my brother. He tells me his CE-5 will no longer accept AC power, only batteries. Any ideas on the problem/ fix?
Thanks! |

We're certain that there's no problem with the AC adapter? Has it been tested with another pedal?

| Good question, and one I can't answer. I'll mention it to him, but I think it's unlikely he hasn't checked. Great ribbing rights if he hasn't though - he's an electrician!! |

I apologize if it came across as a dumb question -- but my past experience with power issues on these pedals is that you either have both AC and DC working, or neither... there really isn't much of anything in the AC current path that isn't also in the battery current path, or in the circuit ahead of the battery.

Only other thing I can think of is the resistor/diode for the ACA/PSA issue, if it's there.

Thanks for the help - I'll post more as I get to know it, because the pedal is mine now! The other day when my broher mentioned it he was bringing back my Norman B-12. I had taken "on the road" one day last summer and it fell flat on it's back (in the case) from standing upright...and the headstock snapped off If any of you have have had something like this happen...it's like losing a child - I was heartbroken. Anyway, he's not only an electrician but a top notch carpenter/luthier/ everything and what a great job he did - to the point, he mentioned he had this problem with the CE-5 and I gave him my spotless CH-1 as thanks, and got the CE-5...(and more, but that's in another post)... |

Thanks guys. I'll post pix of the neck repair over the weekend. He even did a pretty damn good job with the face veneer on the headstock!
Dr. Bob - any idea with the CE-5 problem? It worked great last night with a battery, but my brother says it won't accept A/C power?

Hi 4evrnewB
First of all, and like stahlhart mentioned. Check that the Power adapter is actually working?
Check it on another pedal, ans is it an 9V PSA or 12V ACA adapter?
If it is, then I would take a guess that it's the Protection Diode, that is near the front of the board, where the wires connect to it.
If you take a pic of that part, we might be able to see if it's blown. Or take a look yourself.

Hi 4evrnewB that's a dandy fix on the 12 stringer I'd say. Luthiers are in high demand here on the left coast, and any that are any good have a waiting list to get your guitar in for repair. |

Thanks guys - I'm passing your comments onto my brother. Played the Norman quite a bit yestreday and really enjoyed it - have to get my "12-string fingers" back in shape though!
Defrag - it wasn't Elmer's Brand glue, but he said it's essentially the same thing. Apparently the key is to use the yellowish carpenters glue as opposed to the white - much higher bond strength. |
