I recently picked up a Univox hi-flier phase 1 custom. It is fantastic. The only problem I'm having is when I run it through my DS-1, and turn it on, I get an earshattering screech from my tube amp (Vox AC4TV).
I can only play through the pedal if I have the distortion and level turned down to like 9 o'clock (they are both usually on 3 o'clock), but there is no point because I lose all my tone at those settings. Or I turn down the amp volume to basically nothing, but then I lose all my clean volume.
I changed out the battery in the DS-1 2 times thinking that was the problem. Nope, made no difference.
Is my pedal the source of my problems?

My only guess is some kind of mismatch of impedance.. maybe the Univox only wants a direct-from-guitar signal.. I'm sure some of the gurus here will be more able to assist you. |

I don't know the guitar at all... but the sound you describe is usually from too much gain. Most often because two dirt pedals are turned on together (one after the other).
Are you using the DS-1 into the amp "clean", or are you using the amp for more distortion? |

Welcome to the forum... ... if you have been using the DS-1 before with other guitars with no problem into the vox i would say no....is the problem only on one or both pickups on the hi-flier...?.... i had a similar problem years ago,pre-internet on a washburn superstrat, couldn't figure what the problem was..it was especially bad when i used my DS-2...turned out that the back humbucker was kaput... .....the hi flier is a pretty old guitar with P-90 type pickups..it's possible that they are not wax potted which i think also helps to cut down on this sort of thing....might be worth checking out the Seymour Duncan or Di Marzio websites etc..for more info... some of the smaller guys like Lollar,T.V.Jones make replacements for some of the more rarer vintage instruments like your univox, gretch etc..or might be able to do something for you with the originals if this turned out to be the case or one of them were broken in some way.... |
