Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and have a few questions I hope can be answered here. I just bought a DS-1 MIJ. According to the Boss serial number decoder it was produced in February 1981. I think the pedal originally had a silver screw but this one doesn't, only an old screw with a little bit of black plastic left on it. This DS-1 has the long dash, thinner lettering so I'm assuming it's one of the original models? I was under the impression these pedals had a flashing red check light that only lit when pressed, then turned off. Mine stays lit all the time when engaged. Does this sound wrong, and should it only flash and turn off? Also, if mine should have had a silver screw is there somewhere I can buy one to replace the one that came on mine? Thanks so much for your help.

Hi misterdetail and welcome to the forum.
February 81 means the serial number is 0300. On these you would normally find the silver screw. The momentary LED disappeared earlier (around serial 9000) so the circuit in yours is probably original.
The silver screws are hard to come by today. They're not for sale anywhere today that I know of. In the late 70s/ early 80s they were often used on Japanese electronics so you might have luck and find one when you least expect it. |

Thanks for the info, bossarea! 0300 is the number on my pedal. I was worried someone did a mod to it and didn't tell me. I won't worry about finding a silver screw if it never really had it. Thanks again!

One more question, please. Regarding using an AC adapter with this pedal, is it okay to use my One Spot adapter, or does it require a dedicated adapter from Boss? Thanks again!

Do you use a dedicated adapter? I have a One Spot which powers many pedals at once, including newer Boss pedals. I'm just wondering if it'll damage an older Boss pedal like mine. Thanks!

I don't hope so.. Then a lot of my pedals would be broken. I've used my SS GE-6 every day for 'bout two years now. Not a single problem during this time..

Thanks! I tried it out on my pedal board with the One Spot and it works perfectly. Thanks for the feedback.

welcome to the forum, misterdetail. if you ever find a place to get authentic silver screws, let me know
i think every collector has at least one or two that SHOULD have a silver screw. |

I only wanted a silver screw if that's what the pedal originally came with, but since it didn't it doesn't matter to me. The screw that's in it is not a Boss one of any kind and looks real ratty, so I'm gonna contact Boss about ordering one from them. I have to say I'm enjoying the pedal! I've only played Taiwan made DS-1's, including a Keeley modified one. Feels good to play an original!

The flush threads of the jacks are almost always a silver screw give away.
