I want a delay pedal. But theres so many, DD-3 looks good, but doesnt have a lot of features compared to the dd-5, dd-6 & dd-7.
Oh and please dont say DM-2 or Dm-3, as Im thirteen and can't afford them
But yeah, I bet some of you have tried all the boss compacts, so please, post away |

I wouldn't buy a new DD-3 simply because there is hardly any difference in price between new DD-3's and DD-6's, 7's etc. However, if you spot a second hand one on ebay for example, I'd recommend it. You might think you need all the features but to be honest most people don't use them. The DD-20 is excellent if you could afford it, but it is very popular second hand. If you just want cheap I can recommend the Behringer DD-100 or DD-400 (basically identical), I have the DD-100 and while it won't win any competitions it does the job. Depends what you want it for. For most applications a DD-3 with 800 ms is plenty (unless you want to loop of course, in which case the hold function is pretty superfluous). Oh, and I can wholeheartedly recommend the Electro harmonix stereo memory man with Hazarai, not really any different in price from a DD-7, and you get a power supply. |

| DD-5 if you can find cheap one s/h. Tap tempo with an external jack is essential in my book. |

| Don't worry about not being able to afford one of the DM delays. They are very limited in what they can do. If I have one on my board, there is always a digital delay right next to it doing the majority of the delay sounds. Any of the DD digital delays is a good starting point. |

well, a used DM-3 goes for about the same as a new DD-7
used DD-3's come up for $20-40 cheaper than used DD-5's and DD-6's and i find DD-3's sufficient for nearly all uses.
DD-5, DD-6, RV-3, PS-2, DD-2, DSD-2, etc. all go for about the same price.
imo, DD-3 if price is a concern. |

If budget is a serious constraint, an Ibanez DL5 is a good entry level choice (I know we are in a Boss thread, but there isn't anything in the Boss line at this price-point).
I picked mine up for $30 at the pawn store.

Okay, it is not a Boss. However, you can screw with the fabric of Space and Time with one of these.

Also what exactly do you need for the pedal to do.?..if your only going to use it for some slight repeats on a solo a basic delay probably would be fine..a lot of the top guys use DD-2/3's on their boards... if you need to access some different delay times in a hurry the DD-20(as Paul H)pointed out might do..... Eventide and TC Electronics both do very sophisicated delay pedals these days as well... i use my DD-3's for a lot of delay things and i know how to set the times by ear....but this isn't for everyone, also i like the way i can cascade one into the other with one on a short delay into one on a long delay...i read Joe Satraini does something similar and it gives the guitar a spacey, reverb sound..... ..for a good solid basic delay pedal thats hard to beat the DD-3 can be got fairly cheaply now....even cheaper secondhand....... i've had beer, wine and all sorts of stuff spilt on mine and no probs..my oldest one is in constant use in rehearsals and gigs since '95..... |

Hi Racer X Now that is one obscene piece of gear.
Lie to me! & tell you own one of these Lexicon's. I'm getting old, & I'll believe almost anything.

Franzoni makes a very good point. What do you need the pedal to do? ( And that is a rhetorical question. ) The second question is how much are you willing to pay. You would be hard pressed to beat a DD-3 for the money.
Dr. Bob, when the wormhole opens near Alice Springs, you'll know I have finally scored my Lexicon. |

I agree. In my case as I posted soewhere on the board, I use a DM-2A not only as a delay but for ambience (my "reverb") too and a digital delay (Ibanez DE-7) for "long" delays. Yes, a lot pro like George Lynch use DD-2/3. I dont think that people needs a longer delay than dd-3 even u are into U2 or Pink Floyd. |
