I just received my PS-5 back in the mail, and Roland won't repair it! It says there is a "liquid spill inside causing corrosion." WHAT?
I opened it up and there is NO evidence of a "liquid spill" or corrosion anywhere. What's up with that? I never spilled any liquid on this thing. It just stopped working.
At least before I sent it in the LED would come on and the pedal put out a horribly loud noise. Now that I got it back it doesn't even do that.
I think they're hoping I'm going to give up. I'll be calling them now. |

That just doesn't sound right at all. If the pedal is clean inside they can't start inventing reasons for not repairing it. Get on the phone and let us know how it goes. |

Well I'm probably hosed on this one. I called them and they said I could send it back in, but they weren't guaranteeing anything.
So I opened it up to take a peek and some kind of flat disc shaped component labeled "L2" was hanging precariously out of it's socket. One side was fine, the other side has the solder trace broken. Guess what? Yup, I ever so slightly touched that component and it fell off. It's just WAY to small to solder back on. You can barely see the copper leads coming out of it. I suspect this is the problem. I still may try to send it back in, but who knows what will happen. If I remember to, I'll post a pic. (btw, isn't there a size limit?)
What does the l in "L2" stand for? It's not a capacitor. Also, this is stamped out w/ micro components, not the typical stuff you can modify yourself. |

L is used for inductances. L2 is stamped 151. Is that uH? I don't know, you would need a schematic to find out.
I guess there's still no evidence of a "liquid spill". If the pedal is less than 5 years old they should still fix or replace it. It's still under warranty and you can't be blamed for the fault.
The upload limit it 200kB. Some people has had trouble uploading but I haven't been able to reproduce the problems. If it fails, please note the error message and post it here. |
