Hey Guys,
So it occurs to me that I really hate the guitar playing fans of Radiohead who incessantly buy all of the gear that Jonny Greenwood happens to be playing at the time or has played in the past. Like those DOD 440 Envelope Filters that no one used to want otherwise. They keep the price up on the RV-3's, he was just seen using a Polychorus so now those are going back up in price again, the Marshall Shredmasters, which are seriously useless unless combined with another overdrive pedal are kept at high prices, the Roland Space Echo 201's (not that these aren't way overprice anyway), and the Original Whammy (although plenty of artists keep the price on this one up as well).
So anyway, eventhough I generally like Radiohead, I hate their obsessed guitar-playing fans.
Whose fans do you hate?

Matthew Bellamy's and Tom Morello's. I love those musicians, but their fans... Grr...
How many Fuzz Factory were home made by stupid boys who just wanted to do like Bellamy, whithout paying ZVex...
And I had to pay 100$ for a Ibanez DFL, because Morello plays it... |

I hate most Rush fans, because they've made it impossible to listen to this band without being perceived as being some sort of socially inept dork.
The ones who are fans of both Rush and Dream Theater are by far the worst of them.
/was a Rush fan back when most of them were still in diapers //I guess that this means that I hate myself ///get off my lawn

Interesting topic cause recently some friends and I were talking about racing, and there were certain drivers we didn't like, primarily becuase their fanbase is annoying. Anyways, I like Marylin Manson, I just can't stand overzealous Marylin Manson fans who go overboard with the theatric gimmick side of Manson's music. And I can't stand Korn, but I have less of a tolerance for Korn fans.
Musically, I would have to say I cannot stand the guitar playing fans of Dimebag Darrell and Zakk Wylde, not because of the gear they use, but becuase of how they supposedly have their gear EQ'd with that exagerrated no mids scoop. The other guitarist in the band I am in is a huge Dime and Zakk fan, who uses a Randall half-stack. At practices, the drummer will say how he can't hear the guitar (even though the rest of us are becoming deaf cause of the damn half stack) and then the other guitarist complains about how when he plays leads its as if hes not there cause he doesn't cut through the mix. I look at his EQ, Bass-8, Treble-8, Mids-0...Zero, WTF? So I explain to him that: 1. The drummer can't hear you cause your eq'd to play the exact same frequencies as the drums, so turning up your amp won't help unless you turn it way the hell up and by then we'll all be deaf so no one will be hearing anything, 2. You can't hear your leads cause when you go to the high notes with no mids you got no balls behind the high notes, and 3. The reason why my little 2x12 always seems louder is because I have my eq at all 8's and it cuts through the mix, the scoop gives you a good crunch but it got no balls behind it, where it sounds like it'll knock you on your ass. So what does the other guitarist do? Doesn't listen to me the first time cause I'm the oldest in the band and have been playing guitar almost as long as he's been alive. The next time the drummer complains, I suggest mids, he looks at me like I just stole his girlfriend. The 3rd time, I don't even say anything, and I hear, "but I got some mids in" (at 2). Anyways. Sorry to go off, I love being in a band.... |

we were on a double header gig a while ago and after our set i stayed around to hear the other band, both guitarists were using line 6 vetta amps with some sort of triple rec simulation no mids.....and they had the same sort of problem, couldn't be heard in the mix and the lead lines sounded thin and it was a pity because they were a great band otherwise but to me the sound just wasn't there....afterwards one of the guitar players commented on my sound and gear...strat,boss pedals,70's marshall superbass and a musicman combo in stereo and offered to buy the marshall...!!!! i think jack is spot on....you have to make room in the mix for other instruments even if everyone has to alter there sound a bit for the band mix.... but i suppose to metalheads i'm old school, but i have never had a problem being heard i grew up listening to cream/clapton,pink floyd, jeff beck, steely dan, thin lizzy,ac/dc etc...all players who would have plenty of middle in their sound.... |

With Geddy Lee's ubiqitous peformances delivering Neil Peart's preternatural lyrics coloured by Eric Lifeson's illustrative guitar solos - they did it to themselves!
PS. I love Rush's workmanship - the more you listen, the more you appreciate - I flip radiostations while driving to work, and scan the classic rock stations, ONLY in search of a Rush song!!! |

first off i would like to say, jack, you should print that out, and send it to Guitar World. if i was in charge there, i would print that on the front cover. its unbelievable how many guitarists these days are so uninformed of so much. example. a few years ago, i played with a guy in college that has been playing for 6 years and he didnt know what a truss rod was.. this boggles the mind.
getting on topic. i honestly hate 99% of music today. i gave up on radio years ago. everything is just so regurgitated. in fact, its been vomited, eaten off the floor, and then regurgitated some more. i truly believe in order to find decent hard working music these days, you have to get up and find it for yourself.
i wouldnt say i hate any fans per se, just the people that dont give credit where its due. people that carve Disturbed in their arm but have never heard a Slayer album. or people that swear Korn's guitarist is the #1 shredder, but have never heard of Malmsteen. oh, and whats with moshpits? why pay 90 dollars to go to a concert, jump around, get punched, kicked, and thrown around, and not even watch the band? what happened to standing there amazed watching a band make music? sorry about the rant, but i really dislike nu-metal
Uriah pardon???? |

Gotta agree with most of that. The ignorant fans who doesn't know or care about their idols' influences are the worst. I may however be a bit ignorant of what is happening in music today.
I like Rush but I see what you're talking about. A lot of fans play air guitar but Rush fans play air drums. |
