I bought a DOD Grunge pedal several years ago on ebay and threw it away almost instantly when I got it.... it sounded like crap thru my Fender Princeton Chorus (the one with the red knobs)
I just found it again in the basement and plugged it in front of my rig (Microbaby 1w tube head and Marshall 4x12) - sounds almost decent I gotta admit... it's a bedroom shred pedal but it's fun
and the amazing thing is... it doesn't matter which other pedals you use cuz when that thing is switched on I don't hear them no more... no delays no eqs no nothing.... strange
oh and it's quite noiseless for a pedal with so much gain
still it looks shite and I'm ashamed of using it |

hehe, the made in USA ones aren't that bad. the made in taiwan ones are kinda noisy.
i remember when the grunge launched in 1994. it instantly became their best selling pedal even though it wasn't voiced too differently from their other high gain distortions at the time (super american metal, thrash master, metal maniac). |

Hi MullyFX
Can you please add this pic to the Pedal Internals thread. Or if it's Ok, I can do it for you.
Do you have, or can take some pics of the PCB side & the outside-top of the pedal, to include in the pedal internals.
Thanks in advance Dr. Bob |

Hi MullyFX Any chance of on of the outside of the pedal, so others can see what the pedal looks like. Thanks for posting the pic in the other thread.

I traded a guitar related book for an old DOD Grunge (carton & manual included) with no hope of nothing good. But I like it, its a great noise maker, and the funny named tone controls are really the key to control this animal. I think it sounds a bit like a Big Muff with some settings.

Never underestimate the dodgy old DOD distortions... they're great fun (and very cheap!).
I'd go for the Super American Metal, but the Grunge is a fun one too... I suppose that's why it made it into the Digitech line up! |

Just curious if anyone has tried a side by side comparison of the DOD Grunge and the Digitech Grunge...They are the same pedal right? OR ARE THEY? |

I suppose the Digitech one has surface mounted components, like Bad Monkey.

my comparison hasn't been side by side, but i've played everything from the first year grunge pedals to the current digitech ones.
there were several iterations of the grunge. 2 designs made in USA. 2 designs made in taiwan.
the USA ones sound similar, the taiwan ones sound similar.
the usa's = reaaaaally fuzzy and not a lot of "boost push" when you kick it on. fairly smooth overall while still sounding kinda over the top.
the taiwan's = really chunky and brittle on the high end. more boost push but quite abrasive and noisy.
both have a lot of buzz when on.

I had a good few DOD pedals back in the 80's including the overdrive plus and the american metal, the overdrive plus was a decent overdrive, the american metal was a P.O.S. IMHO...very tinny sounding... .i think i used it once and sold it or used it in a trade but i remember it didn't last too long...... ..i also had the graphic EQ,the compressor, the stereo chorus(good chorus pedal) and the DOD/digitech 2002 delay with the twin footswitch.... basically a whole pedalboard of DOD pedals....but even when off there was a lot of hiss in the signal, boss in comparison are so quiet even when all were chained up together......BTW the pedalboard was DOD's take on the BCB boss one i just cut one of the sections out inbetween the pedals with a hacksaw blade for the delay..... |

| I have a DOD Super American Metal, which I'm actually very fond of. That one has controls for bass and presence, which makes it more controllable. It is still a one-trick pony in the sense that it does 80's scooped metal sounds, but the EQ means that you can get some chunky bottom end and, er, experimentally scratchy treble! |
