Have you got the old book, Electronic Projects for Musicians by Craig Anderton? There's a Compressor, Phaser and Envelope Filter in there that uses opto isolators.
The book is quite old and I don't know if the newest edition is the same as the old one or not. I know it has been widely discussed on the diystomboxes forum and the schematics might be available there too.

I have a copy of that in my library, Though I don't know if it was the older or newer reprint.
He had one on Home Recording as well, that I once saw at our local library.
MCT6 opto-isolators - are they used in anything?
