was going to do the 5-star SD-1 mod this week (waiting for the germanium transistor to get here) and i was wondering which diodes i wanted to jumper w/ the 47pf cap.
i'm guessing it's D5 and D6, but i wanted to make sure if those are the only ones i need to worry about.
so... 1 leg to D5 positive, other leg to D6 negative?
sorry if i seem ignorant on this stuff, i'm getting it... slowly heh.
this also raises to question the DS-1 SEM mod i did...

going from the keeley picture i stuck the cap touching both leads of both diodes... but i'm guessing that is wrong... i'm also guessing that the picture on ovedrive spider is also wrong.
should it be more like this? i drew the line in red...
The mod states "47pF cap accross the clipping diodes". Just put it across the pads of D4 and you'll be OK. Across D6 only won't do as much as across D4... Guess pick the one that sounds best
i've been messing around with an SD-1 lately... working with the keeley 5-star as a basis... not overly happy with what i've gotten out of it so far. seems that i've liked it best w/ a 1N4148 in D6 but i have a 1N34A germanium in there now. i definitely liked the 47pf cap jumper across the clipping diodes.
what i've come to is what to do with C6. removing it opened up the sound and (at least virtually) boosted the volume a bit. i've tried jumpering C6, had it open and with the 0.01uf cap in there. i'm not a big fan of any so far.
i'm wondering if people have had any experiences messing around with it.
