Howdy Boss Folk, I am about to take the plunge for a DM-2. I run two amps. My signal splits at a TC electronic chorus for stereo. I want to put the DM-2 in front of the chorus. Traditionally delay goes after chorus. Does any one have experience with running delay before chorus? That be a good soundin thang? So far my Boss pedals have been a DM-2 when I was a kid, I think I traded it for some four way, duh. I'm much older now I only trade for paper with Benjamin on it! Now I have a TU-2 and I just got an AC-2. Any way cool forum, Thanks |

| That combination can sound cool if you tweak it enough, but if not it get muddy with a capital "M" if you're running a heavy overdrive or distortion. Very hard to hear in a live mix. Like I said, if it's tweaked properly it can sound quite cool. Good luck with it! |

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum. I have tried running the delay both in front of and after the chorus but haven't really noticed much of a difference. Mileage may vary but I don't think you'll be disappointed with the suggested setup. |

| That's interesting. It must have been the distortion factor that caused the mud. (The guy I saw doing it didn't seem to have a very good ear for that sort of thing, but I always assumed that would be the result when using this setup.) I'll have to give it a go myself and see what the results are. |

Thanks, I'm going to get a DM-2 and I'll report back. If it sounds bad in front I can use it on just one amp. |

| When I tested I used a somewhat clean sound through a DM-3 and a CE-3. I guess things may be a bit different with different units. |

| I suppose that's true, but the results should be fairly close, right? Anyway, like I was saying, the guitarist that I was jamming with that had the delay into chorus setup wasn't getting a good tone, but I think it had more to do with the distortion that the order of the effects in the signal path. I'll try it out myself over the weekend. I have a feeling that with the right amount of tweaking you could get a good Space Echo type sound. |

| You are right boss freak: Running a distortion into a chorus can muddy things up. Chorus on its own can go into the ditortion-zone when you put the controls on the chorus too far up. A delay, similar story: You can get distortion out of them when the controls are maxed out, so a combination of distortion, delay and chorus can be a good candidate for a duller sound. Will work, but you need to be careful with the level settings of each pedal, and your amp!!. Also the kind of pick-ups you use will matter as well. Can be done with just careful tweaking and knowing what kind of tone you would like to get out of your gear. |

For me, it would depend on whether the DM-2 was being used for reverb or repeating echoes -- the latter I'd probably do ahead of a chorus, but it seems like reverb would work better after it. In the first case, you're duplicating a dry signal, but in the second you're simulating accoustics.
