| Well Since i an out of comission with tendionitus is my left hand, and i really can do muchright now, i have decieded to revise this list of top 100 guitarist. In over my 26 years of playing i have played something from everyone on this list.I know the technical abillity to play these songs.I have heard of everyone on this list and know what impact that they have done on the modern music scene. I feel that i am the most non-biased person to rate this list. I would say that most of the guitarist that i like do not even belong on this list.I am welcomed to be given a few suggestions on to a few guitarist that need to belong on this list. |

Yeah that Rolling Stone list sucks- the guy who compiled that must have been asleep during the 1980's
No Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Steve Stevens, Paul Gilbert, Dave Mustaine, Yngwie, Dimebag, John Petrucci......etc etc etc
Also a young lady called Li Jie probably deserves a mention.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98y0Q7nLGWk
Check out that passage with the harmonic double stops in the middle, thats some really scary stuff.......
Paganini himself should probably feature in there too, although primarily a violinist he could play the viola and the guitar equally well, and composed some of the most complex and technically demanding music ever written for all 3 instruments, and that was over 200 years ago......

Though he doesn't fall into the same styles as these other wonderful guitarists, I whole-heartedly feel that Andres Segovia is deserving of a place on the list. I believe this clip is from not long before he passed away. He was playing until he died, at age 94. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG7y_CD9rMg&feature=player_embedded |

Thanks for the link... i hope i can still play when i'm 94.. ..i taped a wonderful documentary about sergovia called ' the song of the guitar' i first saw it in the 80's on channel 4 and it was on recently on sky arts so i mananged to get it again in much higher sound/picture quality and recorded it with the sat box..... ..he plays in the allahambra palace in spain..recommended... yep like i said in the OP...lists of who is the best are bullshit..IMHO I thought Kurt Cobain was crap and a bad role model for anyone musically or otherwise... |

Screw Rolling Stone and their list...here's my list:
Andres Segovia Django Reinhardt Les Paul Herb Ellis Barney Kessel BB King Scotty Moore Duane Eddy Cliff Gallup Stevie Ray Vaughan Chet Atkins Merle Travis Albert King Eric Johnson Robben Ford George Benson Luther Perkins(yes...I included Luther. Listen to any early Cash record and you'll know why)
That's my list. There may be others I'm forgetting right now(I haven't had my coffee yet) but for the most part the RS list I could take 'em or leave 'em...
