Hi guys, long time lurker, 1st post, you guys are NUTS! Anywho... Search isn't working, but it's probably good info for y'all anyway.

Been seeing abnormally high numbers of "silver screw" boss pedals of late (on evilbay, mostly.) Got me thinking, how the heck would you know what's real and what's not!?

I own a long dash CE-2. It has a black screw, but the sticker still has the "use a coin" blurb on it. I figure it's from the transition period between silver and black screws - prior to them reprinting the labels.

Then I saw a so-called "silver screw" CE-2 sell today (in Australia) for over AUD$175(US$150) which seems an absolute fortune for a CE-2 - mojo-factor or not. Trouble is, it had a short dash! This seems to be in contradiction to my perceived manufacturing timeline. I would have loved to have seen the label, but it was conspicuously absent from the auction page.

What say you experts about this? Is it reasonable to assume that all silver screw CE-2's would have the long dash, given that the long dash was still in use when the change was made to black screws?

Hi niftydog

Read thread:
http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3137
Evilbay link:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Boss-Chorus-Pedal-CE-2_W0QQitemZ330146136590QQihZ014QQcategoryZ41413QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Someone paid $249au for one in a box with man. last Saturday night.

Like yourself, I have a long dash SS and one with a black thumbscrew.
that both have use a coin.
I guess Bossarea, is the most experienced to answer your question.

When I saw that CE-2 go for nearly $250, it warmed my heart, in a cynical sort of way, as I have 5 baby blue CE-2's - and more n the way.

Do you still have the link for the one you're writing about?

Welcome to the forum good to see another Aussie here.
What part of OZ are you from, if you don't mind me asking?

Regards Dr. Bob

Hi Niftydog and welcome to the forum.

Yes, we're nuts but in a good way
Search only works on good days. I found the best way to search the forum is to use google (or your preferred search engine) and add site:bossarea.com to your search.

Where exactly the silver screw was introduced is still a little unclear but it looks like it happened very close to the switch from ink stamped serial numbers to paper sticker serials. The long dash disappeared around serial 13xx00 and at that time all pedals was made with the black screw. All silver screw pedals should therefore have the long dash unless the pedal never had a long dash (like the BF-2).

Fakes show up all the time. Most commonly DM-2s or CE-2s. I've sometimes asked for the serial numbers and found that you can even find MIT pedals with silver screws on Ebay
For every silver screw fake there's probably also a black screw fake which explains why one of my 9800 GE-6s has a black thumb screw.

I have found several MIJ black screw CE-2 here in Sweden for under $60 the last year. I guess that originally this chorus have been sold in very huge numbers. That makes it a little hard to understand the high prices collector-wise, but player-wise its understandable (CE-2 is one of the greatest choruses ever).

Dr. Bob, here's that evilbay link. $249!!! Wow... that's astonishing. The other thing I confirmed when I visited that link you posted was the box colour thing. It's changed dramatically, which makes the one above an even more obvious fake. I'm from sunny Canberra, BTW. What about yourself?

Bossarea, nice info, thanks. I like your brand of nuttiness, don't sweat! Out of curiosity, which other pedals had the long dash, do you know? I had wondered about the existence of silver screw BF-2's and I've already used google to poke around here and answer my question!

You guys seen this evilbay store? Some of it seems too good to be true to me.

What do you mean by "where silver screw was introduced" ??

It seems you are saying it started out with black screw - switched to silver and back again?

Cheers

Well, I just got a BF-2 in the mail, SN 0300, blackscrew but with a black label what says "Use a coin"

Would this also be fake and should it have a silver screw instead of the black one?

regards!

You should only be concerned if you have a pedal that you suspect had its original black screw replaced with a fake silver screw. People tend to pay more for the silver screw versions.

There was a guy on ebay who sold an "extra screw" with one of his pedals. It showed pictures of the real black screw, then he said that an extra ss was included in case you want to "mod" the pedal.

At least he didn't stick it on there and sell it off as ss, but im sure whoever bought it would

I would love to get my hands on a ss just to see whats so special about them though
