Hi PaulH, Franzoni & Guys

I have a few of their early albums on vinyl,
some MINTY double ones, that are un-played.

Apologies if this has drifted off topic.

I guess we should give the thread back to
Lets See Your Amps.

And start a new Vinyl LP's (Big Black CD's) Appreciation-Discussion Thread.
But I leave that up to one of you guys to start.

Regards Dr. Bob

Hi starr36

Way back,
I used to run my Mesa 50-50 rack head, into one of those 2x12 half stacks.
The other side into one of the custom 4x10's I built.

LOUD!!!!!
Is the only thing I remember about the rig.

What are the Mesa Thiele tuned 1x12's like?

Regards Dr. Bob

Thats a Hughes and Kettner Edition Tube 20th Aniversary. i picked it up with 50% discount . I like the tubes, the clean is killer but the distortion lacks mojo. compared to my AD100VTXL in taiwan anyway. unfortunately i don't have any pedals to play around with here. but i have enough in taiwan.

Nice Ibanez JS you have there, is it an early one??

Good Question ... the Thiele tuned cab, is easily identified due to the bass port forcing the speaker to be mounted off centre; the sound out of this is very rich and lots of extra bass compared to a non-ported 1x12 Boogie cabinet. Not only does it have GREAT SOUND and power handling capability, its SUPER easy to transport. When recording, you are generally only micing one speaker anyways, so its really handy even if you are using a combo or another larger cabinet, to get a good stereo sound. It's a great cabinet. You see the odd one in local classified for say $175 but on eBay, i have seen prices north of $300 for one of these. Really great sound out of it.

Not the greatest picture, but this is my baby :]

It is a 1971 Traynor, a YBA-3 Custom Special to be exact.

Best amp I've ever heard! :]

It has an amazing clean tone, perfect for all of my effects!

I will take a picture of my 1978 Marshall soon enough.

Not bad for a 17 year old kid eh? haha :]

Cicatriz: The old Traynors are really nice.. great parts like Hammond output xformers.. people are very divided over whether they represent poorman's fender or hidden tone gem! (I'll take the latter) I think it's even moreso here as people view a homegrown product as inferior against the big boys down south - apples and oranges! Very sweet rig.

My amps..

Now I don't have anything really big.. but my oldest is 60s/70s Garnet, handmade in Winnipeg (weird, this Canadian amp thing). Very sweet. I paid very little. The sound is very big. Bias Tremolo. Washy verb - with the volume down, it does the "Over The Hills..." swell perfectly.

The front you can see in my guitar pics.. nothing special. Tall 1x12.

Next is another Canadian amp, The P.A.S. Cub II. This is more of an oddity. 20w, solid state, noisy-ass spring reverb, nasty distortion.. Maybe it's more of a table-base with its front-panel cabinet flanges.. Made in Pickering..

My bass amp, also Canadian, a Traynor Bloc80 - acquired for free as someone was unwilling to go in and clean the pots.. I'm not even a bassist, so this is for fun, and for the output of the OC-2.

Finally, my Mesa Subway Rocket. 1x10, 25ish watts, 2xEL84. It sits on a thick Fender 2x12 cab (I think it was for bass??) loaded with one cheapie Celestion G12L(?) and one MIC Celestion Greenback. This is very loud for its size. I managed to score the LAST Subway-era footswitch on Mesa's shelf!

--

I think even this is overkill as I don't gig and just noodle around in the basement. But I still want more little amps.. at least one per delay pedal!
