I'm a new owner of an old Boss SE-70 and I'm having trouble using/understanding how MIDI cc messages work. I'm using the Guitar Multi 2 algorithm and I want to be able to turn some effects on/off using cc messages.

E.e.g, I have assigned delay on/off to cc1, chorus on/off to cc2 and reverb on/off to cc3.

If my MIDI controller (Axess Electronics MFC5) is sending a cc1 value of 127 (on channel 1, which is what the SE-70 is using) and switch type set to latching, this should turn on the delay. And if I have button on the MFC5 to use the same program but sends cc2 of 127, then this would turn the chorus on.

But none of my cc messages are working. The program change messages are working, just not the CCs. Any clues would be appreciated.

Hi leonc

First of all.
Welcome to the forum from Australia.

Not being negative about your request for help.
But you may not get any responses here.
As there are only a few people Here that are conversant with MIDI & it's associated protocols/messages/implementation.

Hope someone here answers your post.

Have you tried to contact Axess Electronics,
about the compatibility with your Axess Electronics MFC5, MIDI Controller?

Some Technical thoughts.
Are they both transmitting/receiving on the same channel?
And what channel do you have the two on?
Are you using a Known Good/Tested MIDI cable?
Can you get the SE-70 to respond to program-Bank change messages,
with the MFC-5, or from another bit of gear like a computer, or a keyboard?
Check the on-board backup battery if it has one, these have been known to cause weird faults when they are low or nearly flat.

Have you tried to do a "Full Factory Reset" on the SE-70?
To bring it back to a known state,
& just in case it's in some stupid latched up mode on the MIDI port/buss.

Regards Dr. Bob
