Was looking at the Schems for the DD2/3 and noticed it has an area of the circiuty labeled 'Compression' Nothing in the two DM pedals. Is compression a normal thing to find in delay pedal, or is the DD2/3 unique in that way? Cant seem to get that same 'Ppuck' sound from a RV3, maybe 'cause it digital
The compression and expansion is a means of improving the audio fidelity (e.g. improve S/N ratio) of the signal path that runs through the delay line -- the compression occurs before, then expansion after, then it's mixed back with the original signal to create the audible delay effect.
It could perhaps still be there in other digital delay effects (or in later revisions of the DD-3), buried in the LSI somewhere, if a separate compander IC isn't seen on the circuit board.
