Hi, I modded my MT-2 a while ago and recently, all of a sudden it doesnt work. When the pedal is off (clean) it is fine, but when turned on the led works, but no signal goes through to my amp. I opened it up and discovered 2 wires were not attached and I cant see where they go. If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated. The loose wires are:
- A brown wire comming out of I9 - A short, white wire coming off the foot switch.
Also, When I was modding this pedal, I tried putting in a colour changing led to replace the red one, it didnt work. Does any one know why it didnt work or any ways to get it to work.
Thanks, jcpt |

The LED was probably simply around the wrong way.
In the stock pedal, the white wire goes to the output jack, not the switch. The switch as a black wire and a purple wire.
Again, in the stock pedal I think the brown wire goes to the ring of the input jack. Point 19 does go to the ring, but I'm not sure it is a brown wire. |

Hi jcpt
You will find some internal pictures of the MT-2 on page one of our, "Internal Pictures of Boss & Other pedals" thread. http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4147&whichpage=1
Coincidentally these pictures were uploaded by Laurie. It's a fabulous resource of pedal information.
BTW - Which mod did you install in your MT-2?
Good luck repairing your pedal.

brown and black wire are soldered to the same leg on the input jack
and the short white wire is soldered to the leg on the input jack closest to the inside wall of the housing and other end of white wire to the left leg of the switch
just happened to have mine open when i read this
hope this helps |

Thanks everyone for the input. The led only has two legs, same as boss ones. I did try the led both ways just to be sure, but it still didnt go. Im wondering if it requires more power, I may have to change a resistor somewhere for that. Anyway Ill give these wires ago and see if anything works!!!

Hi jcpt You may have overheated the LED with your soldering iron. Some LED's especially the older ones a a bit heat sensitive.
The other thing that may have happened is that one of the wires/connection is open circuit from the bending when you did the mod. Or a pad/track on the PCB where the wires connect has lifted or broken off.
As a quick check to see if the rest of the wiring & pedal are working. Try to tack the old LED back in. Remember that LED's are polarity sensitive.
BTW - What LED did you replace it with in the mod? White LED's do typically require up to 4V & more current to work properly.
Good Luck regards Dr. Bob |

Hi, When the colour changing led didnt work in the pedal either way round, I checked it with a battery and it worked fine. I replaced the led in the pedal with the original one and it works fine, so I dont think the colour changing led did any damage or anything.
I did rewire the pedal today but still no signal. Clean (off) still comes through but when engaged there is no guitar signal, however when I turn the knobs the hiss of the pedal changes like it would with a guitar signal coming through. I triple checked and everything is wired to where it should be and all solders are fine so I dont really know what to do next. Any Ideas?
BTW Dr Bob, the mod I did was a mix of mods from this site. Shame it doent go now, it was a good sounding pedal!!! |

| Can you post some pics of the internals - wiring and circuit board? |

Hi jcpt
can you tell us or post a link to the specifications of the colour changing LED? Or who you purchased it from? Many of the colour changing LED's have to be driven off higher voltages, And currents.
The LED in the MT-2 is driven by a 5.6V zener in series with a 1.2K resistor, which sets the current to the LED at a very low level. Without doing the math, probably somewhere around 3-6mA
Do you have the Schematic for the MT-2? it is available on line.
It sounds like you are going to ave to chance some parts/reistor that drives the stock LED.
What battery did you test the colour changing LED with, & did you have to use a current limiting resistor.
Once you give us the new LED data we might be able to figure something out.
Regards Dr. Bob |

I was using a power adapter when the led was in the pedal. When I took it out I tested it on a single AA and it was fine.
Sorry but I tried uploading some internal pictures and the data sheet I got with the led, but my computer just wont let me for some reason. Ill try again later. below is the place I got the led from, I hope it helps. http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/4b9da8140224730e273fc0a87f3b06b9/Product/View/Z3865
