my wife and i play in a shoegaze-pop band called Yuki. we play everything from bar shows with full PAs to house shows. we've been wanting more sonic control over our vocals and the effects put on them recently, so we tried out the Digitech Vocalist 300 today. it was okay, but i'm wondering what else is out there.

we basically want to be able to add a little compression, noise gate, eq, delay, and reverb. ideally we'd be able to go to a club with our own mics (beta 58s) and have the sound guy plug into the processor.

suggestions?

The Vocalist 300 is an older model now.. the newer are in the VL series - the VL2 and VL4 I believe ("Vocalist Live"). Some of these units rely on a guitar chord playing to determine harmony - if this is what you're looking for.

Another option is the TC Helicon VoiceLive. They just released a new version, but the older one should be available still at a lower price. It does a variety of GOOD quality TC effects + 4-part harmony (think CSNY or the Eagles, if it's set up right, it's VERY realistic).

TC also has a new range of smaller effects.. VoiceTone.. there are some dedicated harmony pedals, but also some more basic fx boxes.

Check out http://www.tc-helicon.com/ - if you're playing big gigs for money, they may be well worth your while.

I'm not affiliated with any of these companies, but I do deal with them in my day job (sometimes).. hope this helps!!
