I just took delivery of a CE-2 with a serial number of 8700 so according to bossarea's serial number decoder, it was the first month of production, Oct 79.
Anyway, I was intrigued to find that the PCB is stamped 052-516A. Lightburst's CE-2 has a serial number of 9000, dating it at Jan 80 and his PCB is 052-516B. Any ideas why they would change the the PCB code after only 3 months of production?? |

| Just for the sake of bossarea's record keeping, it is a permanent LED. |

On closer inspection, the 2 main differences I see are:
(I know nothing about electronics so excuse my descriptions!)
1. where lightburst has a purple thing to the right of his pic, i have a black thing with sanyo 220 uf 10v.
2. where lightburst has a a black u shaped thing, i have a black square thing that has c945 ap198.
Any ideas? |

It's hard to say what may have changed without a picture. The capacitor and transistor you mention are the same type on the B version and even if they were replaced with other types it wouldn't be a reason to change the PCB.
Do you have a possibility to get a picture of your board? With a picture of the side with the solder points I can compare it to the B board and see what has changed. |

off topic but still ce 2.
hello,
i have a theory regarding ac adaptors and the ce 2 pedal. the ce 2 pedals i use are the only boss pedals i have that leak ac when using a wall wart. None of the other 17 pedals do this. when the adaptor is out and the units are powered by a battery, the hum, which is quite obvious, disappears. has any one else noticed this, or is it just an australian ac power thing..(we have 240 volts mains here)

| There's been several reports of pedals humming when powered by an adaptor and been silent when run off a battery. In most cases the hum disappears when a better quality adaptor is used. Some of them are really sensitive to ripple voltage and demands almost perfectly smooth DC to work properly. |
