Hi jack
First of all... nice collection..
On your Fat Tele's, are they the standard Humbucker p/ups?
I played a Fat Tele for a few days, & they have a really nice tone.
My friend, just bought a Butterscotch Squire Tele, with a single piece
Maple neck, & it plays & sound awesome,
I hate to say it, but it actually plays better than my 52RI Tele.
The neck profile is very thin - and according to the squire site His Tele, is a limited run, whatever that means. 
Are the neck profiles the same on your 3 tele's?
I noticed that you only have roeswood-ebony fretboards.

Howdy Dr Bob.
All my guitars feature the stock electronics, pickups and hardware, other than the strap buttons which I swapped out for either Schallers or DiMarzio Cliplock straps. The only mod is on the Antique Burst Fat Tele where I put in a Les Paul jackplate cause the stock was messed up. The Fat Teles have great tone and when I realized they were being discontinued, I was able to get 2 more at great closeout prices. All 3 necks feel the same and they all play and sound the same, though the Vintage Blonde needs slightly higher action than the other 2. I believe the profiles are the same, though I have never really measured.
Squier Teles are some of the best deals out there, and while I am a bit surprised about your opinions in comparison to a 52RI, in a way, it doesn't surprise me either as my Squiers have played better than any MIM Fender I have tried, but I haven't played any MIA Fenders, but now I just might have to.
Is your friends Butterscotch Tele an Affinity Series? I have heard raves reviews about those. Or is it a California Series? Just wondering.
As far as the rosewood/ebony necks, its just the feel and sound I prefer... |

From memory, my friends Squire Tele is the Affinity series.
I will confirm it with him, when we talk next.
I have an Affinity 20th Anniv. Blackie Strat, & it's one of the best guitars I have ever played.
It gets by far the most amount of, "fingers on fretboard time" of any of my guitars.
I had it setup by a local dealer, & have never looked back. it also has a roeswood neck, the body is a bit thinner than a MIA Strat.
I bought for $100au and even got a cheap padded $35 gig bag thrown in.
I bought it as a FrankenGuitar for modding,
But couldn't bring myself to touch it, after I had it setup.
It has really hi signal level Staggered Pole Alnico pickups,
in fact, another family friend had a Vintager 69er stack humbucker put into his MIM tele, & it has less than half the signal level of the p/ups on my Strat.
And all this from a MII -- yeah don't laugh Made In Indonesia, it is incredibly well finished & made, like the CIJ 52RI I played a few weeks ago.
Basically it's become my gigging guitar.
And I will admit, I have been turning my nose up at Squires for a long time, Until I played the Fat Tele & my new Blackie Strat.
I will keep an eye out for another Fat Tele, as I do remember you witting once before, that they were discontinued.
I can see why you took a shining to them Jack.

Nice tele's Jack Do you tune them all the same, or do you use alternate tunings. I would sooner have a few guitars, with different tunings than a VG strat or Robot Les Paul but I dont do gigs so I dont have to haul them anywhere.

Thanks Franzoni, Yep it's a Dove, she's my pride and joy. I bought it new in 1990. It's been played a lot, but I baby it. I had a bad dream once with Pete Townsend smashing it to hell, and woke in a cold sweat. After these 17 years it is just now starting to loosen up, and the tone seems to improve every time I play it. |

hey p4p, I don't really mess around with different tunings, as I have enough difficulty with one All my guitars are strung with DAddario EXL115s (11-49) and tuned down 1-step cause I just like the way it sounds. |

Hi Dr Bob.
Squiers are indeed great guitars, and because of them, I don't think I'll ever buy a guitar with more than 3 digits to the left of the decimal point. My first Fat Tele kicked off my Tele addiction. I wouldn't mind getting a few more Teles with different pickup configurations, but I sort of feel like a deadbeat dad or something when I start thinking how all my guitars don't get equal playing time And getting more would just make me have to divide my time among my "kids/pets" even more |

| I'll try to get pictures of my guitars later but I wanted to mention that I have on of the limited run Squire Telecasters. But not one of the new 'vintage' models. It's black with the maple neck, neck humbucker / bridge sc. I "think" it feels thinner than most telecasters, except my friends custom shop Tele. |

I have noticed that the body thickness is thinner on the Squire Stats. & Tele's.
As a mater of interest, it surprised me, when a few days ago, my friend brought over his Butterscotch Squire Tele.
He was given a Fender moulder hardshell guitar case, by Santa-wife,
I noticed that it was a real tight fit end to end, & he mentioned that it was difficult to seat it properly.
So I dragged out my trusty old tape measure,
it seems that the Squire was exactly 10mm longer from headstock to tail. than the 52RI Tele.
I placed my Fender 52RI Tele in the case & it just dropped in, snug as a new baby in a blanket.
I didn't measure the difference in body thickness but it's at least 6 to 8mm.
It also seems that the Squire is less stiff in the strings, when I play it.
Hey DarrinPA, do you know if Squire list anywhere, what makes them a Limited Run?

Thats interesting about the thickness. I don't know about the Squier Strats, but I thought I've heard that some Squier Standard Teles are a bit thicker than some Fender Teles. I know the Squier Affinity Series uses slightly thinner bodies than the Standards. As far as what makes a Squier limited run, to me its hard to say. The Squier Black and Chrome Tele and Custom Teles claim to be a limited run, but they have been made since 2005 or 2004 and are still being produced, so its not that limited with those models. |

the squier tele i have is an old jap silver series squier from the late 80's,early 90's.... really well made guitars those jap squiers i have two,a late 80's strat and the tele..i was lucky and found both lurking around the back of music shops as trade ins and got them for about 200 euro each... a real steal imho..in fact the shops owner came over when he saw me paying for the tele and didn't look too impressed when he saw what i had just paid for it..... kerching...!!! but i ordered some locking tuners and a set of seymour duncan pickups for it at the same time so he did ok out of it in the end,both of these guitars will never be sold or traded,if any of my daughters show an interest possibly then i will part with one or the other to them as their first electric guitar....i already sold my first strat in a moment of madness,one of the first run of the jap '62 reissue strats...... and let my mates same era '57 reissue slip by as well....who knew that the jap fenders would become so sought after and hard to get,there going for nearly the same price as U.S.A. ones in the small ad's these days.... B.T.W.. i've heard that the limited reissuse of the jap teles with the pink or blue paisley finish like james burtons old 60's tele are well regarded if one should cross anyones path for the right price..... |

What is the Silver series?
My MIJ Blondie 52RI Tele has a serial of N013x ( I can PM you the rest of the s/n)
but the heel on the neck is dated 92.
It is really well finished, When I saw it, I jumped at it.
and it's my first Tele.
and it has just the right amount of surface rust...
There is no reference to Squire anywhere on the guitar, just the MIJ & serial on the back of the neck-heel.
But sadly the Blackie Strat plays much better.
I have decided to let the 52RI sit for 3 months to acclimatize to Melbourne's weather & humidity, after it's long trip from Japan & then from the more tropical parts of OZ.
It might be a different guitar after it's setup.

I have a Silver Series Strat. As far as I was led to believe the parts were of the same quality as USA Fenders, just assembled in Japan. And from a simple Wikipedia search....
Silver Series (higher spec/priced (early 90s?), Japanese made, alternative to the standard level Korean Squire of the time) |
