I have a few EHX pedals, but the ones I wouldn't ever part with are my Deluxe Electric Mistresses - I have a 2008 one and a 1973 one. Boffo!
Also partial to my POG.
How about you? |

No vintage, all new:
Deluxe Electric Mistress Small Stone Big Muff Pi (US) White Finger
I had a Small Clone, which was nice, but I sold it and kept the CE-2. The CE-2 retains more low end, and the controls are more useful. The switch doesn't bother me on the Stone, though. I tend to leave it on one setting.
EHX I'd like to try:
Polyphase Polychorus Flanger Hoax Qtron+ Deluxe memory man (or the new Memory Boy - though I can see the Toy creeping into my setup 'accidentally') Clone Theory Stereo electric mistress Worm Stereo Pulsar
sigh. |

- POG2... my favourite pedal, it's a beast.
The rest are all Electro-Harmonix/Sovtek pedals (the Russian ones):
- Big Muff Pi MKII (x2) - Big Muff Pi MKIII - Big Muff Pi MKIII (whizzer mod) - Big Muff Pi MKII-MKIII transitional - Smallstone (best phaser ever, I like it more than the PH-1r) - Bassballs
I used to own a Germanium OD but I sold it because it just wasn't getting used in my set up.
I'm currently building a Ram's head era Big Muff Pi clone which I'm attempting to fit into an SD-1 housing. My plan is to paint it up like a 90's Russian green Muff..
I probably went a bit overboard getting all those Big Muffs...

This is probably a stupid question but: Is there much difference between those two (effect wise)? |

I didn't mind it, although I'm not big on OD (I don't presently own a tube amp). I used it mainly with the bias and volt controls at the point where the distortion cracks up when you play softly (like a pedal with a near flat battery). That's the effect I bought it for but never really ended up using that sound. I found that using a Boss NF-1 after the Germanium OD helped to gate the clean sound you get when you aren't playing loud enough to generate distortion in the pedals circuits (this doesn't work with an NS-2).
Since that's all I used them for and I no longer have the Germanium OD I'm selling both my NF-1's |

Hey ollie, if you do get a Russian Big Muff make sure it's one of the earlier big chunky green ones. They are heavy and cumbersome but much better than the current black model... |

I currently only own one EHX pedal - A Sovtek/EHX Smallstone. I've had it modded for true bypass using the original footswitch and a relay (the original bypass was terrible, with a quiet swooshing constantly in the background), a volume level internal trimmer to eliminate volume drop, and a microswitch installed to switch in an alternative set of capacitors to give a quasi-Univibe sound. It is now fantastic. I'd recommend the "univibe" mod to anyone who owns a Smallstone, it gives a whole extra set of sounds to this awesome pedal.

In the past, I owned a Microsynth (great pedal, slightly regret selling it now, but I just didn't use it at the time) and an original Pulsar Tremelo, which I didn't like it at all, weird "double-time" effect at higher speeds - Apparently this has been solved on the newer, more compact stereo Pulsar.
Currently GAS-ing for an EHX envelope filter (either Qtron+ or maybe the new Riddle) and either a POG or MicroPOG. |

Hi Guys
I have an English Muff'n & a current Small Stone. I purchased them as NOS.
I was wondering if anyone else has, or has played an English Muff'n? I'm struggling to get a decent tone out of mine.
I've tried it with various guitars & amps, as well as straight into the effects loops - main power amp in.
I can't get the type of tones & feel that Peter Stroud is getting in the video demo.
Needless to say it's left me pretty disappointed, And this pedal get such great reviews. I've even tried the suggested swapping out of either or both tubes.
I feel like I may have a faulty one. Any suggestion (polite ones) accepted.
It might be pull it apart & test gear time, for this pedal.
Regards Dr. Bob |
