Hi Im trying to buy a delay pedal that has a really long delay but Im trying to think of what signal to put it through

Tell us your Answer

Personally I pick analog because its natural sounding and not computer edited or processed

im not completely sure, but i thought the max delay time you could get from most analog delays is like 800ms.

i prefer my delays to be digital, BUT i prefer any reverb to have an analog sound.. make sense?

Well, my Moog MF104-Z http://www.moogmusic.com/detail.php?main_product_id=39 sports over 1000ms of analog richness. The predecessor (MF-104) had 1400ms & is fairly hard to find.

The Moog 104-Z costs around 700 clams though. I shall be buried in mine.

i know the dd3 is digital but i think if you can pick up a older one it can get very close to analog sounding..there is also a mod you can do to give it a hi cut to achieve this if you want(i'm sure its in the tech section somewhere)..i love mine just stock but i do use the older one for slapback and general use....the second newer one i use for more defined crystal clear type stuff.....it seems to work best for my setup that way....joe bonamassa and scotty moore are both famous users of the dd3.....

i think that your looking at a lot of moolah for a analog delay with a long delay time as far as i know regular analog delays have a fairly short one maybe 600ms at most...if like DeFrag you go for a moog or i think maxon make one as well but both are very expensive for a delay pedal.....

i don't know about having to shrink yourself to fit inside a moog pedal ..those things look as big as a piece of furniture...

Go for both types
Analog is great for short slapback types, digital for longer in my opinion.
As noted DD-2 and early DD-3 are the ones to look for.

^ what he said! Get one of each to cover all the bases. My favorite is the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man....at 550ms it's all the delay time I really need. Most analog delays average out around 300ms, not counting Moogs and Maxons. But if I need more delay that's where my RV-3 comes in

Yeah, I would love to go for one of each too, but just matter of $$$$$$$. Especially when you don't have enough!

I used to always think it depended on what sort of delay sound you wanted. Analog ones are more natural I'm told but digital is a cleaner sound.

Guess it's personal preference!

digital is definately cleaner. thats why i think its better for longer delays, but for slapback, its more about the ambient echo so you dont want a perfect sterile replication. its about the warmth, baby!

and also, like Ronster said, delays tend to be over the $100 mark so most players(excluding us pedal freaks) only want one delay that does it all

The best digital delay is without doubt Boss DD-20, it also simulates analog delay fine.
A little expensive for sure, but you get so much for the extra money.

The best way to go is analog for short delays and digital for longer ones. I use a Boss DM-2 or Ibanez Delay Champ for short and a Line6 echopark delay for longer delays (i need a tap- delay).

If you want to buy just one pedal and not spend too much, get a Boss DD2. You get the closest thing to the best of both worlds: it has a pretty warm sound and a roll off of the highs and it has a pretty long delay time. The Echopark also does a pretty good emulation (not the reaal thing though!) of analog: set it to tape delay and mod to 9 o clock, or it imitates a DD2 -set it to analog with mod at 9 o'clock

I use a DM-2 and a DSD-2. The DSD-2 is fairly analog sounding for a digital delay. DD-20 is also a great option if you want just one pedal. If you must have an analog delay with long delay times, I would look at the Maxon AD-999. It is analog with delay times up to 900ms I think.

I saw the Beastie Boys last week and ADRock their guitarist was using a pink Maxon delay unit as well as a DD-3 and PH-2.

Hey BH...how do you like the delay on the PS-2? I always thought it fell sort of in between. Not analog, but kind of a dirty digital. What's your take on it?
