We got to look at the price of rare pedals i two ways- If you are a collector or a user. $500 for a SP-1 is crazy for a user, but if it was the last pedal in my collection I would pay the $500. I started collecting Boss-pedals when I bought SP-1 for about $60 little over a year ago. All I knew then was that it was rare (got the Bossbook a year earlier from my son). Before that I had used Boss pedals since the late 70s. That SP-1 started me buying too many Boss-pedals.... I like the SP-1 as a user, you can get a very good sound out of it, but it does nothing PQ-4 couldnt do (and PQ-4 can do a lot more |

I bought my SP1 less than a year ago. Although I can't recall the price exactly, I know it was enough to buy several other pedals at once. I was willing (and fortunately, able) to buy the SP1 only because of it's extreme rarity and the fact that I "needed" it for my collection. There are very few models that I would "need" to complete the collection at this point, but there are several that I'm not interested in because they are mostly "revised" or "improved" versions of others that I already own. The VB2 is getting closer and closer to being in the price range of the SP1 too, so I was also lucky enough to find one (at a high, but lower than average price) shortly before getting the SP1 and an original "flashing LED" OD1.
If I had to do it again, I would still pay a high price to obtain the SP1. |

The prices of collectible vintage pedals will continue to rise even if one may think they arent worth it. Its all about supply and demand, and the satisfaction of owning the "Holy Grail".
Its the same with Gibson Les Paul sunburst guitars made during the period 1958 to 1960. These babies go for 100 000 USD and more these days, compared to 1970s and early 80s when it was possible to buy one for around 5000 USD. It was a lot of money too back then many people thought and perhaps passed on a chance to buy one.
As said earlier in this thread Ebay has of course contributed to higher and higher prices as these rare items becomes more available to open market.
Regarding Boss pedals I think forums like this play an important role in boosting interest (and demand) for Boss pedals and as a consequence breed new collectors and widen the interest among musicians.
Even though 500 USD might seem much for a SP-1 today, these things along with VB-2 and SG-1 will not get cheaper in the future...
Bargains are hard to come by, and the satisfaction of being a proud owner of a pedal like this can be worth a lot to many collectors.
Cheers... |

It looks quite minty so it's probably not going cheap. What do you recon? $600? |

| I won't be part of any bidding war for this pedal, but if one develops it may end up closer to $1,000 than $600. (on that note, have you ever seen one Boss compact pedal sell for more than $1k?) |

It will be interesting to follow this auction for sure. It may just set a new record...
A couple of days ago two VB-2s went for a little less then whats been the current marketprice, so I guess its fluctuating a little at the moment. Might have to do with the fact that it was two VB-2s in mint condition auctioned at the same time... Price might have been higher with just one. |

| I've never seen any Boss pedal go for more than $600. I don't keep an eye on every auction so it may have happened while I looked away though. |

Well, I think we can conclude from recent interest on Ebay that the SP-1 is truly the most collectible Boss compact pedal of them all...
I have no info on it, but it would be very interesting to know price statistics from the last 2-3 years on Ebay for VB-2, SG-1 and SP-1 to see how it has evolved.

It seems like prices on the SP-1 has skyrocketed to new heights on Ebay. Yesterday an auction ended at 840$ US for a pedal in very good condition!

It's the highest priced Boss pedal I've ever seen. $840 is a crazy price. It was almost mint and sold with box and manual but still. |
