It's just a noise gate.
It's a circuitry that does nothing when you play. But when you don't, your sound level goes down, and when it reaches a certain level (controlled by the "Sens" pot), it cut your sound. So, the hiss and noise remaining when you don't play are cut.
The Decay is the time needed to cut the sound. For example, when you play a chord, and mute it. There is a delay, between the moment you stop plaiyng, and the moment the noise gate detect it, and cut the sound. This delay is the "Decay" time.
*When set to min, hiss is cut fast, which is great if you want precise sound, for example combined with a MT-2 for a metal riff. But it will reduce sustain, as it will cut your sustaining sound as soon as it reaches the trigger level. *When set to max, sustain will be preserved (but still the sound will be cut of course), as a certain time is needed when trigger sound is reached. But if you play fast, if you want the hiss to be cut directly after you stop playing, it won't work.
It all depends on what you use it for. |
