| I've recently discovered that some collectors don't consider a pedal "collecatble" if it's not in near-perfect condition. Sure it's nice to have a rare model in good condition (no paint chips, etc.), and I try to take care of my pedals, but as long as I can still use the pedal for what it was intended to be used for (the EFFECT), I'll still pay collector's prices for some pedals. Any thoughts? |

Of course we all want them mint and nice, but that is not always possible. They are build for use, not for collecting...
If you look at Stratocaster collecting for example, 20 years ago no collector would buy a not completely original for his/hers collection. Nowadays it�s very hard even find a fully original pre-cbs strat at an y price. So even the refinished ones are in a way collectible these days.

You're right about that. I would of course love to have all of my pedals in perfect condition with boxes, etc. but from some things I've read out there on the net, it almost seems some would prefer not to have the pedal at all, regardless of it's scarcity, unless it's near-perfect in appearance. Just seems a little strange to me, that's all.
With guitars, I guess it makes a bit more sense in a way. *I'm not exactly sure why*, but I can see the reasoning for wanting a vintage guitar that's not scratched, chipped or dented too badly. |

You have to pay for what you get...
I rather collect a few more scratched pedals than one mint for sure.
Just like I love the sight of a really beaten up strat, the same goes for pedals.
There�s an air of history with well used equipment... |

| I totally agree. I would almost prefer to have a pedal that has been kicked around a bit as long as it still works! The cheaper price doesn't hurt any either!!! |

| I'm likewise into Boss pedals for their effects, but I've noticed a bit of 'collector envy' (???) in my buying habits lately. I don't mind if a pedal isn't in perfect condition paint-wise (my MIJ SD-1 and PH-1r are nowhere near mint), but I'm less likely to bid on a pedal on eBay unless it comes with the box and manual. sure, you can get most manuals from rolandus.com, and I store my pedals either in a pedalboard or in a cabinet (my basement sometimes floods, otherwise a few pedals would stay on the floor) instead of their boxes, but I digress. I guess I do 'collect' related Boss paper at least. |

I personnaly love both. A beat up pedal allways has something to tell, needs care... Plus, you can use it.
A perfect old one, you're afraid to hit it each time you play with.
And I don't see the point of collecting if it's not to play with all this, even if it's really a few. |

First of all I'm trying to get'em all - regardless their appearance. Then when a nice piece comes along I try to buy it and sell the first one - you can almost always get your money back.
Just sold my DM-2 for more than I paid for a much nicer DM-2 WITH box

Being reletively new to boss pedals I would love to get my hands on more pedals regardless of appearance just to see what they sound like and to see if how I can use them in my setup.
On the other hand, a nice new pedal does look great...

| I have duplicates of some Boss pedals. One is in excellent/mint condition with box and manual. The other is in lesser condition and the one I use for playing. I only really do this with the more collectible ones. It gets a little expensive. I still need to buy a second SP-1, VB-2, ang SG-1! |
