Hey all I was wondering what people used for volume pedals. I wanted to know what people like and disliked about how and what they use.
I know Boss make a few volume pedals. Some plastic ones and some metal ones. There are ones that go before pedals and after.
I don't know much about these things so any comments and suggestions would be great!

i (as well as many people i've been in bands with) have always been partial to the ernie ball volume pedals.
solid construction, smooth motion, etc.
the mono one is good, but the stereo one can be used for panning. |

| I have a Morley volume pedal, but, it's a bit "so-so". I have the Morley Classic Wah as well, and like the wah, the volume pedal works OK, but there is just something about it... Just doesn't call to me to play with it. |

| I was looking at the volume pedals last saturday. i asked the guy how much a boss fv-50 was he said oh no no, earnie ball is much better. the design is nice. unfortunately they only have the JR series. Next to that they also have the FV-500. that thing is HUGE. i was just thinking who would actualy lug that around. the last option was a dunlop volume pedal. I didn't have time to try them but in a few weeks i might go back and try them all. in the question at the moment are the earnie ball and the dunlop. the FV-500 is too big, the fv-50 looks plastic and weak. Althought that might make it a lot lighter and easier to carry around. |

Or if you got an old wah kicking around Lifting the earth connection of the 4.7F capacitor will cancel the wah effect and leave you with a volume pedal. The '70s Jen Wah-Volume pedal switches in a 4K7 resistor and 0.22F cap in series across the 0.01F "sweep cap".
just my 2 cents

I thought about getting one from time to time..i've heard Ernie Ball are pretty good..daryl sturmer from genesis uses the jr version because it's smaller and easier to fit on his pedalboard.... he has a pretty good gear section and FAQ on his website with some nice pics of his 'boards,a good few boss pedals on them ...worth checking out..... |

Thanks everyone for their suggestions. Guess I'll just to try a few. I liked the look of the Boss ones, FV-500 but I've never tried one (yet).
Any ideas about whether I should get a volume pedal that goes before the effects pedals or after? Something about high impedence and low impedence???
Thanks |

thats another thing that sort of put me off them as my squier has a active mid boost in it,but i was reading through daryl stuermers FAQ's when a question came up about the impedeance thing ,his answer was he uses a passive volume pedal with an active clapton strat and never had any problems..and this guy is a top session head and pro player...... |

ideally, do you just want a volume pedal that just behaves like you are rolling back the volume on your guitar?
if so, generally before the effects.
guitars are high impedance. |

| I like the Boss FV-500 series & own the high-impedance model. I wish they would "merge" the high & low models into one unit with an impedance switch for versatility. The Low model is stereo. |

| or just before delay/chorus so when the volume is down, the echo will carry off naturally. |
