i have the fz3 and i love it.. i know what you mean about thinking the speakers are about to pop out of the amp....!! boss is very underestimated when it comes to fuzz pedals....then its my ds1 and my od2,the only thing i don't like about the od2 is that its not as loud as the others i use it after the other two as a booster..thinking of getting the od3.....

Last week I bought my second LM-2 but seller insisted that I also had to buy his Digitech Bad Monkey OD. The price was very good so I bought the pair, telling myself that I would sell the Monkey later.
To my big surprise the Bad Monkey sounded very, very good. Like a good Tubescreamer but with much more transparency and a lot more bottom end.
I would say that this OD is one of the best I ever tried, its a pity it isnt a Boss.
The price for a new one is a good bit under $50, and thats more or less a miracle!

I still have to say my favorite distortion of all time is a Keeley-modded MT-2...

Hi Goran
I bought a Bad Monkey about 6 months ago, I also think that it's a great pedal. It craps all over my TS10 Tube Screamer.

The Tone Controls are very versatile, & you are very right about it being very transparent, and way more bottom end.

Did you get the small glossy booklet with it, that shows off the other pedals, in it are some sample settings. It's not the user manual.
They are are a very good start.
Tell me if you didn't get it, I will take a pic of the relevant pages, in mine & send it to you.

There are two outputs on it, one is direct, & the other one has a bit of cabinet direct recording emulation on it.

Try running them into two separate amps, there are lots of people putting their Tube Screamers into storage, & are now using the Bad Monkey.

Here is a link to the relevant Digitech page: with a sound sample.
http://www.digitech.com/products/BadMonkey.htm

The Tone Controls can get pretty nasty (in a good way) when really cranked or cut.
They have a lot of very useful range.

I believe the unit is built with surface mount components,
It's one of the few pedals that I haven't pulled apart.

Mine is the Made In USA model, I believe that they moved production over to China or somewhere.
Where is your one made Goran?

Funny you should mention the Bad Monkey. I just played a TS-9 and a Bad Monkey (hmm, maybe we should call it the "BM") side by side and they can pretty easily acheive each others tones. That's pretty sad when you consider the TS-9 is about $70 more.

Hi Goran & Guys

I found an LM-2 for $78Aust. is this a good pedal & price (well in Ozzy dollars)
They originally has $98Aust on it, It was in about 9.5/10 condition
black platic screw, black label, MIJ, I didn't write down the paper serial num.
No Manual - No Box

I have been looking for a comp limiter or similar pedal
As Digumm12 knows, I have a CS-3, but I am unhappy with it.

Ok guys, opinions, should I have bought this pedal? It's in a town about 160Km (100 miles) away, but i could get a family member, that lives there to buy it for me.

Does anyone use one of these, on 6 string guitar? not bass.

hey Dr Bob. the LM-2 is one of my favorite pedals. i use it for guitar and bass.

i have a pretty elaborate setup. and turning on one effect might make the volume jump. so i have the limiter at the end of my chain to keep everything nice and even. it avoids lots of stopping in the middle of your jam session to tweak volume knobs. its definately a "secret weapon" type pedal. its not going to make your tone or anything. they are also getting scarcer and i recommend picking it up.

Hi StratoSphere

What sort of dollars do they fetch over there?
As you may have read, they are asking $78 Aust. for it.
I will admit, I was tempted a lot, but I have been trying to keep the GAS at bay.
GAS made me acquire 5 more pedals, in the last 15 days,
while I was on Xmas New years leave.. or should that be..

Have you tried it at the start of your chain, as you would with a compressor?

Thanks for your input...
I still have to try out an MXR Dyna Comp Compressor.
I tried out my friends Behringer Compressor, & it was pretty good.

i pretty much stole mine. i won it off ebay for $32 USD but there was no picture, so i figured it was beat to hell. it showed up MINT in box and manual. the screws hadnt even been taken off the backplate, and the rubber still had that new gummy rubber feel. know what i mean? hell even the box was in mint condition.

i didnt try it at the start of my chain. im not a big compressor guy.

To Dr Bob regarding Bad Monkey;
I have the China model and I also got the small booklet.
I tried to open mine up, but I couldt. Tried every allen wrench I have, metric and non-metric. The backplate says that you avoid guarantee if you open it, maybe this is on purpose, they see if you tried to open it as the allen wrench used for it is something in between that just Digitech has.
As far as I can see from the hole to the switch the components are surface mounted.
Interesting that the design of the enclosure and switching is very close the Behringer, but of a much, much more high quality. Really much more. Its easy to change battery but with Behringer you easily says some nasty words. So I conclude that Behringer not only ripped off Boss, they did it with Digitech too.

Hi Goran,
Thanks for the reply.

We shouldn't forget to tell the other Guys, that this is
One Heavy mother of a pedal.

Other than the Line 6 Space Chorus pedal that I have,
the Bad Monkey comes in in as almost as heavy.
Someone said about 1.38 lbs or more. without the battery.

Regards Dr. Bob

PS, how is your LM-2 ?

Not a pedal but the ADA MP-2 is hard to beat for OD and distortion. It is a rack mount tube preamp. There are like ten different gain settings. It sounds great in front of a clean tube amp. It also has built in chorus, wah, and tremolo but is not really a multi-fx. It has an effect loop where you can put your pedals. I used this all the time with some Boss pedals in the loop when I was in a band. I was thinking about moving back to this type of set up.
