i suggest going to a pawnshop. if you dont care about physical appearance, i would deliberately look for something a little banged up. even if the electronics dont work, it will be dirt cheap and its fun to rebuild. i noticed you said you want something thats rock solid. i find 99 percent of the time the heavier the axe, the better so take this into consideration.
all the pawnshops in my area are starting to carry lines now. brand new guitars for 100 bucks. try to avoid these new guitars as ALL the parts are cheap particle board and plastic. they sustain for about 3 seconds and they feel like toys. usually the best sounding pawnshop guitars are beat to hell and made by some company youve never heard of in the 80s.
