Something similar that happened to me a few years ago..the cab i use with the marshall is like an old 2x12 PA cab with Vox speaker cloth on the front,it was lying around our rehearsal space from a previous band our drummer was in..when i opened the back there was a couple of 25 watt greenbacks inside........i changed them for V30'S but since changed them back...personally i think the greenbacks are a bit warmer and fuller sounding .....old PA cabs might be a good source of vintage speakers for anyone wishing to try them out for not a lot of money,i think Fane speakers come up as well a good bit(i think Hiwatt used to use these in their stuff)...another thing i like to do is check out the insides of old valve gear(not only amps..!) old radios or reel to reels if you see them as ornaments or in a skip, for any good 12ax7's etc... i found some original Mullards in an old reel to reel a while back......
Bit more research - they are actually 1974 white back "green backs". 75Hz resonance 8 Ohm lead version. There are badged "Rola Celestion" (so not pre-Rola, but I'm not a hard core collector so no worries). They look like the bottom pic here: http://www.cathedralstone.net/Pages/CelestionVintage.htm
There are four speakers in the boxes I bought - two per side in little PA columns. Unfortunately, one of the drivers has been replaced (looks like about 20 years ago) with a non-Celestion generic driver, so there are only 3 greenbacks (poop!). I'll have to find a fourth so I can load up one of my 4x12 cabs.
Oh, and I'll need a 70's plexi/JTM head to go with them if someone has one laying around
