I've maybe posted this in the wrong section, so I apologise if I have.
What are the alternatives to an FS-5L? I imagine it would be pretty simple to make my own version. Is it?
I already have one FS-5L. I have a couple of pedals that have remotes now, and don't fancy shelling out 20+ per pedal for the FS-5L. |

Hi DasBeef
Moved to "Other Boss products"
I guess you will just need a latching switch, like a the foot switches, used for true bypass switching.
It's probably a lot harder to locate a single pile switch, that it is to find the more common double pole switches.
Use can use the other pole to power a LED indicator, which means that you will have to have some kind of battery or Power supply to run the LED.
Or you could just forgo the LED & have a simple switch in a metal box.
Good Luck.

Simple, cheap - and the benefit is you can put it in a tiny enclosure: I've always found the Boss switches far too large and take up precious pedal board space. Maplin in the UK do a very handy little aluminium die-cast box, approx 35mmx35mmx25mm for about 4 and the switch and jack for 5 or less, say a tenner and half-hour's work. Having a jack for a removable patch lead to fit the pedal board is much more useful to me than a hardwired cable.
Also, these boxes are perfect for making tiny un-latching footswitches for tap-tempo inputs, i've made a few before and now i'm making two tap tempos and a latching OD-2r remote. Here's a terrible picture of the underside:

It's very blurred, but you can kind of see the size of the box relative to the size of the switch and jack socket. The box itself is aluminium, but finished with a very subtly dimpled surface, so it wouldn't need painting like bare aluminium. I'm doing a batch if anyone wants to place orders...

I think that's it: The dimensions would be fine, although i thought my ones were almost square, whereas they look to be more rectangular, and the ones I got had a dimpled surface, while those ones seem totally unfinished. I am pretty sure the ones i got were Eddystone, probably just a slightly different range. |
