I have recently acquired an early (silver screw, momentary LED) PH-1 phaser. I am very happy with its sound, however I think I saw somwhere that some folk prefer the PH-1r. I am unable to find an example of the latter to try out, so am looking for ideas as to which you prefer and why (ie before I foolishly go and bid on the next PH-1r on ebay in order to satisfy my curiosity!!)

well, the PH1r has resonance, which is very usefull to find a lot of cool sounds, whereas the PH1 has not... Resonance adds a typical phasing vibe to an instrument, and I love it, especially on analog synths, it's to die for with a moog or a juno for example... So, I would say the circuitry and sounds are the same, plus an option for the R version.. |

As you crank the res control the phaser begins to get more quacky, sort of like a envelope filter, except on an LFO. I'd take the PH-1R anyday as it's go more sounds. It can do all the PH-1 can and more.

Is that why you have the R at the end of your name Goldsmith?

Now "Resonance" that would be a pretty interesting first name, wouldn't it? Haha.
