I traded my 8 string bass against a Custom les paul guitar.
Custom being the brand, in fact it's a Ibanez with a different logo on it, presumably 70's.
I never really used the 8 string much anyway, and I had a nice Epiphone gothic explorer which is a good guitar but I grew tired of the shape and the style, so I wanted an LP.
I'm really a bassplayer but I want one good electric guitar.
So after placing an ad, someone contacted me to make this trade.
He was also a bassplayer who liked the idea of having an 8 string, and he didn't use the guitar so we made the trade.

Damn, those Japanese guys sure know how to copy an instrument.
Solid mahogany body, bolt-on construction (I know it's supposed to be a set neck but what the H...), Dimarzio pickups, coiltapping, Schaller tuners, the good stuff.
It just needs a new set of bridge saddles and a heavier set of strings, I like 11's better than 10's so...
Also the pots and switches are a little scratchy, but that'll be fixed with some contact spray.
Sounds wicked, more real LP like than an Epi.
Oh btw, anyone from Holland here interested in an Epi gothic Explorer?

it looks nice. definately a Gibson copy. but those guitars made in the 70s and 80s are built like brick shithouses and pickups/hardware that old have the tone. are those 2 switches between the volume and tone knobs?

Congrats

I love these old Japanese knock-offs. They were made at a time when Gibson had their biggest quality control problems and was in many cases able to rival the originals they were trying to emulate. These days they can be had for a reasonable price and they're still decent instruments.

My 17 year old son just made a pretty damned good 1st music deal of his life by picking up this Applause 35 12-string for $80. I realize a new one goes for $300 but what a nice guitar. I'm happy for him... & a bit envious

I'm not sure what year but it doesn't have the full electronics, just an vintage-style volume, tone, & jack.

One switch is for series/parallel switching of the bridge pickup coils. Series being normal wiring, parallel giving a strat like sound without the hum.
The other is for in/out phase switching of the bridge pickup yielding a different tone. Very cool all in all.

Hi DeFrag
You should let your son buy some pedals for you.

My sons do it for me, & sometimes find a outstanding bargain;
Like your son did.

Regards Dr. Bob

Bob: Es-PECIALLY since I had a brand new RV-5 that for some reason I thought sounded harsh so I dumped it for like $50. I can't believe I did that.. I want it back sooo bad! Maybe I should use my forehead to turn my pedals on/off. I guess I was expecting that Fender 'verb sound or something.
